Qatar Airways Baggage and Carry-on

What is Qatar Airways’ policy on hand baggage allowances?

Qatar Airways permits passengers to take with them on board the aircraft a certain amount of baggage subject to weight and size restrictions.

What is Qatar Airways’ policy on checked baggage allowances?

Checked baggage allowances may vary according to route and cabin class and can be set either by the Piece Policy (limitations on the number of pieces, as well as their weight and size), or by the Weight Policy (limitations on weight and size of checked baggage).

Hand Baggage

Depending on cabin class, passengers are entitled to the following hand baggage allowances:

Number of pieces1 piece2 pieces
Total maximum weight7 kg (15 lbs)*15 kg (33 lbs)
Maximum dimensions50 x 37 x 25 cm (20 x 15 x 10 in)50 x 37 x 25 cm (20 x 15 x 10 in) each
*For tickets issued in Brazil for Economy Class passengers on flights to/from Brazil the maximum weight is 10 kg (22 lbs).

There are some personal items that Qatar Airways will not count toward your hand baggage allowance such as a ladies handbag, a small briefcase, cameras, duty free items (purchased on the day of your flight) or walking sticks. A laptop bag will not be considered a personal item and must fit within your hand baggage allowance.

Checked Baggage

For the checked baggage allowances, the Piece Policy applies on Qatar Airways flights to/from Africa and the Americas. On all other flights, the checked baggage allowances are set by the Weight Policy. Regardless of which baggage policy applies, a single piece of checked baggage must weigh no more than 32 kg (70 lbs) otherwise it will not be accepted by Qatar Airways.

At Hamad International Airport, baggage can be checked in 6 hours prior to departure (except when traveling in large groups), but only 3 hours before departure for flights to the US.

Free Baggage Allowances

There is a certain amount of baggage, subject to weight and size restrictions, which can be checked without any charge:

  • In advance – at preferred rates (up to 20% discount on standard rates), after you make your booking up to 6 hours before departure.

Baggage Service

In case your baggage arrives damaged, is delayed, or items are missing from your baggage, and you immediately report it, the Qatar Airways baggage services desk will create a Passenger Irregularity Report. Usually, delayed baggage is located within 24 hours. You can use the baggage reference number, located in the Passenger Irregularity Report, to track the status of your baggage claim.
