What is the required age for a child to qualify for the Unaccompanied Minor Service?
Aerolineas Argentinas only offers the Unaccompanied Minor Service for all Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral routes, collecting an additional charge which may vary according to the destination (domestic, regional or international destination). To qualify for Unaccompanied Minor Service, the child must be at least 5 years old.
Are there any restrictions for Unaccompanied Minors?
Unaccompanied Minors can only be accepted if advance arrangements have been made, and Aerolineas Argentinas has confirmed the carriage. Upon check-in, the child’s passport or ID card with a photograph must be presented.
The following age restrictions apply to children traveling alone:
- The Unaccompanied Minor Service is not available to children under 5 years old.
- For children 5 to 12 years old (under 12 at the moment of the flight) traveling alone, the Unaccompanied Minor Service must be requested.
- For children 12 to 16 years old (under 16 at the moment of the flight), this service is optional.
Unaccompanied Minor Service
Booking
The Unaccompanied Minors Service must be requested at least 72 hours before flight departure, at the Sales Offices or by calling the Aerolineas Argentinas/ Austral Call Center. The service is not available for online request.
To use the Unaccompanied Minor Service, the child must have an Unaccompanied Minor form filled by his/her parents or legal guardian indicating the child’s name and surname, destination, flight number, date of flight, the name of the persons that will take and receive the child at the airport as well as their identity card, address and phone number.
Availability and Restrictions
The Unaccompanied Minor Service is available on direct flights and on connecting flights lasting up to 5 hours under the following restrictions:
- No overnight stay.
- No airport change in Buenos Aires (AEP / EZE).
Children in need of special assistance or with a medical condition will not be accepted as Unaccompanied Minors. Unaccompanied Minors are not allowed to travel with pets.
Fares
For minors traveling alone, the child fare will apply in addition to which Aerolineas Argentinas will collect an additional charge (per segment and per passenger) for Unaccompanied Minor Service, depending on the route:
- Domestic flights – USD 30.
- Regional flights (countries bordering Argentina) – USD 60.
- International flights – USD 100.
General Immigration Requirements
In order to prevent international child abduction, the Argentine National Immigration Department has adopted regulations (Regulation 31.100/05) with regard to the requirements for the issuance of ‘Permission / Authorization for Trip’ for departure or arrival of minors to/from Argentina. For minors traveling alone, the regulation stipulates that in the authorization carried out before a Judge, Notary Public or other authorities that issue permissions, must compulsory be specified: the place of destination of the trip, the name and surname, type and number of identity card as well as the domicile of the Person Receiving the minor.
Unaccompanied Minors traveling to/from Jujuy, Catamarca, La Rioja or Salta must submit their ID and a travel authorization signed by the child’s parents before a Notary Public or Justice of Peace.
