What is Air Astana policy on free baggage allowance?

Each passenger who has a ticket, except for infants, is entitled to a free allowance for hand baggage and checked baggage. The checked baggage allowance may be limited by the class of travel and any combination of dimensions, weight and number of pieces. Baggage in excess of the free allowance is subject to an extra charge.

As an exception, on flights between Kazakhstan and Moscow, Air Astana introduced the Basic Fare that includes only the hand baggage allowance and no free checked baggage allowance.

What is Air Astana policy on special or bulky baggage?

Passengers who want to check any special baggage (live animals, certain sports equipment, technical devices, perishable items, wheelchairs, fragile items, etc.) must contact Air Astana Special Services in advance to get approval for carriage of these items. If you come to check-in without getting prior approval, you may not be allowed to check such baggage.

Oversized baggage (each piece of baggage with the sum of its three dimensions over 158 cm) can be carried only with the prior consent of Air Astana.

Pieces of baggage weighing over 32 kg are not accepted as checked baggage.

Hand Baggage

The hand baggage allowance is 1 bag in Economy Class and 2 bags in Business Class. For safety reasons, hand baggage weight and dimensions are limited and, on Air Astana flights, must not exceed 8 kg and 56 x 45 x 25 cm per bag.

In addition to the above hand baggage allowance, the following articles for personal use may also be carried:

• One lady’s handbag, laptop bag or briefcase.
• Reading material in a reasonable amount for the flight.
• One overcoat or wrap.
• Baby food for consumption during the flight
• A baby stroller (maximum size when folded – 34 х 32 х 14 cm).
• An infant’s carrying basket.
• One walking stick or mobility aid.
• A pair of crutches and/or fully collapsible wheelchair provided that the passenger is dependent on them.
• A bunch of flowers.

Checked Baggage

Each passenger flying with Air Astana, except for infants, is entitled to the following free baggage allowance:

• Business – 2 pieces up to 32 kg each.
• Economy Plus & Sleeper – 2 pieces up to 23 kg each.
• Economy Classic – 1 piece up to 23 kg.
• Economy Basic – no free baggage allowance.

Air Astana may offer Special Baggage Allowances on certain routes and periods.

Dimensions of one piece of checked baggage must not exceed 158 cm (total sum of the three dimensions), and the weight of one piece of baggage must not exceed 32 kg. Infant carrying seats or fully collapsible strollers, and fully collapsible wheelchairs (provided that the passenger is dependent on them) are carried free of charge and normally in the hold.

Excess Baggage

Checked baggage in excess of the free baggage allowance shown on the ticket will be charged as excess baggage. Up to 24 hours before departure, you can purchase Prepaid Additional Baggage (up to 10 pieces of additional baggage) with 30% discount, online, via Air Astana Call Center or any ticketing office, or via your travel agent. If you don’t prepay for Additional Baggage, you can purchase it at the check-in counter at a higher price.
