How does Air France ensure a safe flight during the COVID-19 pandemic?
The airline’s commitment for a safe flight, Air France Protect, includes a series of travel recommendations to prepare for your trip and the strictest health measures, both on the ground and on board, to keep you protected at every step of your journey:
- Information on travel requirements and COVID-19 testing.
- Mandatory surgical mask.
- Distancing measures.
- Hygiene on board.
- Flexible tickets.
Air France received the highest distinction in the APEX Health and Safety ranking, the Diamond status, which is the highest level of certification in terms of health and safety. The audit carried out in December 2020 by Skytrax, evaluating the hygiene and safety measures implemented both on board and at the airport, awarded Air France the 4-Star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating.
Information on Travel Requirements and COVID-19 Testing
Before departure, Air France recommends that you check travel requirements on TravelDoc, a dedicated website, where information is compiled by a team of researchers who liaise with health agencies worldwide, government departments, and immigration authorities to ensure the information presented is verified and correct at the time of publication.
As many countries require a negative COVID-19 test to enter their territory, you can use the interactive map of approved testing centers around the world developed by SkyTeam.
Mandatory Surgical Mask
For the safety and health of all, the wearing of a surgical mask or an FFP1-3 type mask is mandatory for all passengers aged 11 and above, at all times, at the airport and throughout your Air France flight. Bring your own mask or you may be denied boarding!
Although, on their own, surgical masks are not a guarantee against transmission, when combined with other safety measures such as physical distancing, the air recycling system onboard, etc., they provide effective protection against the COVID-19 virus. It is recommended that children aged between 3 and 11 wear a mask, but it is not recommended for children aged 3 or below.
Distancing Measures
To minimize your interactions at the airport, you should use the Online Check-in service and directly download your boarding pass. For most Air France flights, you can also print your luggage tags when checking in online. If printing your luggage tags at home is not available for your flight, you can print your baggage tags at a self-service kiosk at the airport. Check-in counters are equipped with Plexiglas protective screens and, as well as self-service kiosks, are disinfected regularly.
To limit traffic, access to Paris airports is restricted to travelers and persons accompanying minors or other travelers in need of special assistance. Throughout the airport, special signage and floor markings remind you of the physical distancing measures. On arrival, specific announcements are made to facilitate disembarkation respecting physical distancing measures.
Hygiene On Board
Air France reinforced aircraft cleaning procedures, notably with the disinfection of all surfaces in contact with passengers. Cleaning and disinfection of all contact surfaces (armrests, seat belts, trays, entertainment screens, overhead baggage racks, door handles, windows, etc.) are carried out before each flight. The carpets and all seats, including head covers, are vacuumed daily.
Air France aircraft are equipped with an air recycling system consisting of HEPA filters, identical to those used in operating theatres, that eliminate more than 99.97% of bacteria and viruses. The air in the cabin is renewed every 3 minutes.
On long-haul flights, Air France offers a personal sanitary kit that includes a surgical mask, a disinfectant wipe, and hand sanitizer. On all other flights, a disinfectant wipe is at your disposal when you arrive on board.
Flexible Tickets
All Air France tickets, excluding group rates and allotments, are 100% changeable and refundable:
- Up to the day of departure of your first flight, you can change the date and destination of your ticket without any change fees, regardless of the ticket’s fare conditions. You only have to pay the fare difference if the price of the new ticket is higher.
- At any time before the departure of your first flight, you can request a ticket refund for any trip scheduled on or before December 31, 2021. For a non-refundable ticket, you will receive a voucher valid for one year.
