Air Inuit Baggage and Carry-on

What is Air Inuit policy on carry-on allowance?

On flights operated by Air Inuit, you are allowed to carry hand baggage, which is the luggage that can be transported inside the passenger cabin, without additional charge. Each passenger is only permitted to carry one piece of hand baggage, which cannot exceed 5 kg.

What is Air Inuit policy on checked baggage?

All paying passengers traveling on an Air Inuit flight are permitted to transport a free checked baggage allowance, which depends on the type and size of the specific aircraft passengers will be traveling on:

Carry-on

All the aircraft of Air Inuit are designed to provide accommodation for carry-on baggage. Nevertheless, all the pieces of luggage that you carry inside the cabin must be adapted to Transport Canada limitations governing weight and size, as follows:

  • On  flights  operated  by  Boeing 737 or Dash-8 aircraft,  the  maximum size  permitted  is  23 x 37 x 51 cm (9 X 14.5 X 20 in), considering wheels, handles and pockets. The maximum weight allowed is 5 kg (11 lbs).
  • On flights operated by a Twin Otter aircraft, the maximum size is 23 x 33 x 33 cm (9 X 13 X 13 in), considering wheels, handles and pockets. The maximum weight permitted is 5 kg (11 lbs).
  • If  you  are  going  to  travel  in  a Beechcraft King Air aircraft, the maximum size allowed is 20 x 30 x 33 cm (8 X 12 X 13 in), considering wheels, handles and pockets. The maximum weight allowable is 5 kg (11 lbs).

Along with the carry-on allowance, each passenger traveling on an Air Inuit flight can transport, at no extra charge, the following items:

  • Laptop computer.
  • Diaper bag.
  • Camera.
  • Small purse.
  • Coat or other outer garment.
  • Collapsible stroller.
  • Umbrella.
  • Food items in disposable packages.
  • Assistive devices (canes, braces, supports and walkers).
  • Child restraint device.

The carry-on baggage must fit in the size measurement device located at check-in counters; in addition, it has to fit under the seat in front of you, or in the compartment located above passenger’s head.

It is important to assure that all the liquids transported, as well as gels and aerosols, are inside containers of maximum 100 ml placed inside a transparent plastic bag with a volume of 1 liter, which also has to be re-sealable. You will need this type of bag in order to locate inside the available containers at the security check controls.

Checked Baggage

Free Baggage Allowance

Baggage allowance depends on the type of aircraft operating the flight:

In case a passenger travels with only one piece of baggage, the maximum weight permissible for this piece will be 32 kg. Any single piece of baggage that exceeds 32 kg will not be admitted as checked luggage, and it will need to be transported as cargo. The maximum linear dimension per piece of checked baggage is 158 cm (62 in).

If the itinerary involves a transfer to be made during the same day, from one kind of aircraft to another, which has a different baggage allowance, the higher baggage allowance (30 kg) will be applied. If passengers have to make a transfer from any other airline to Air Inuit, the baggage allowance implied in the Air Inuit policies will be applied. If the specific itinerary consists of connecting flights with other airlines, Air Inuit advises passengers to get familiar with their baggage allowances in order to avoid displeasing surprises.

Additional Baggage Fees

If the baggage exceeds the allowed restrictions, the correspondent charges will have to be paid directly at any Air Inuit check-in counter. The extra baggage will always be transported depending on the space available, and it is limited to 40 kg per passenger (unless prearranged and approved in advance through Air Inuit customer service).

The fee for excess baggage is $8 CAD per kg (from $ 8.40 to 9.20 per kg, including taxes).

Sporting Equipment

If your vacation plans include the practice of any sport during your trip, you need to be aware of the following guidelines, so you can transport your equipment without any trouble. The same weight limitations as applied to the checked luggage, will apply to this type of equipment, contained within the free luggage allowance.

  • Bicycles are carried for a $50 CAD flat fee ($ 52.50 – 57.49 including taxes), irrespective of route. Bicycles are not comprised in the free luggage allowance. They will always be considered extra baggage, and consequently, their transport depends on space availability. The handlebars should be loosened and lined up with the frame, the tires must be deflated, and the pedals need to be removed.
  • Skis, hockey, fishing and hunting equipment. Air Inuit accepts to transport all these types of equipment as checked luggage. In order to do so, the equipment must be appropriately packed to avoid damage and meet the terms to all regulations. This type of sporting equipment counts toward the free baggage allowance. If you have a huge amount of equipment or items of a greater size than the allowed one, we can arrange to have them shipped separately through Air Inuit cargo.

Baggage Service

Air Inuit has the following rules with regard to missing, delayed, or damaged baggage:

  • Delayed or missing luggage must be reported to the airline as soon as possible after the flight’s arrival. Make certain an Air Inuit representative fills out a claim for damaged or lost baggage upon the arrival of the flight. If your missing luggage is not located, you will need to submit a detailed report to the Air Inuit department of baggage claim 21 days from the date of arrival.
  • If you don’t give notice within the above-mentioned time, it may be impossible to take any action against the airline, unless the applicant establishes to the satisfaction of the airline that he or she was not able to provide any notice.
  • Damaged baggage should be reported immediately to an Air Inuit agent or within a maximum of 7 days. Air Inuit shall not be responsible for any harm produced to baggage that has been packed in an insecurely way, is over-packed or overweight, or for any other kind of deterioration because of normal wear.
  • If the passenger discovers that some items are missing from his or her baggage, this fact must be reported to an Air Inuit representative within 3 subsequent days of the flight’s arrival.
  • If passengers lose something while being inside one of the airline’s aircraft, Air Inuit will do its best effort to help them find it.
