Is medical clearance required for the acceptance of newborns on Air Mauritius flights?
On Air Mauritius flights, newborns may travel without medical clearance after the first week from birth.
Does Air Mauritius offer discounts for infants and children?
Air Mauritius offers the usual discounts:
- Infants (less than 2 years of age, without a separate seat) – 90% of the applicable fare.
- Children (2-12 years of age) – 25-33% of the applicable fare.
Infants reaching the age of 2 during their journey must have a seat booked as a child for the respective portion of the journey.
Two infants accompanied by one adult may travel only if one of the two infants is over 12 months and is able to sit in a car seat approved for use on an aircraft. In this case, you will need to inform Air Mauritius at the time you book your flight and pay the applicable child fare for the seat occupied by the second baby.
Babies on Air Mauritius Flights
For the infants’ comfort, there are baby cots available on international flights. Baby cots can accommodate infants up to 12 months old and/or weighing up to 11 kg and up to 74 cm tall, depending on which condition is more restrictive. The number of baby cots is limited, and you should consider requesting one at the time you book your flight. The request will only be confirmed at check-in at the airport.
If you have reserved a seat for your infant, a car seat labeled as certified for use on an aircraft by a National Aviation Authority is mandatory. Air Mauritius accepts car seats with a maximum external width of 43 cm (17 in) on European flights and 40.6 cm (16 in) on other routes
On Air Mauritius flights, the infant’s free baggage allowance includes:
Hand Baggage | Checked Baggage | |
♦ Baby food to be consumed in-flight | PLUS | ♦ 1 piece up to 23 kg on international flights. ♦ 5 kg of checked baggage on flights between Mauritius and Rodrigues. |
Carry cots, prams, and baby buggies may be taken up to the boarding gate, where these special items are folded away and placed in the hold for use upon arrival. Air Mauritius helps passengers traveling with infants with Express Boarding. You can skip the queues and board first, so you have time to get your baby settled on board before the aircraft gets full.
The Air Mauritius infant amenity kit, specially prepared with baby travel in mind, contains diapers, baby wipes, baby powder, baby lotion, and a sterilized baby bottle and is available on all flights except to Reunion and Rodrigues.
Depending on the route, you may be offered the option to request a baby meal suitable for infants aged between 6 months to less than 2 years. This meal consists of 2 jars of baby food, and it is recommended to be requested at the time of booking.
Children on Air Mauritius Flights
Children get the same baggage allowance as adult passengers. In addition, parents may bring on carry cots, prams, and baby buggies up to the boarding gate, where these special items are folded away and placed in the hold for use upon arrival.
When traveling with your child on selected Air Mauritius flights, you may bring and use an inflight bed or leg-rest extension (e.g., Bed-Box, Fly Tot, 1st Class Kid Travel Pillow, Plane Pal, etc.) as long as they are not attached directly to the seat. The use of devices that need to be attached directly to the seat, such as Fly LegsUp or FlyeBaby, is not allowed.
The Air Mauritius children’s amenity kit, specially prepared to ensure that kids have a great experience during their flight, contains a furry friend, fun games, and accessories, such as puzzles, coloring sheets, and colorful origami paper, and is available on all flights except to Reunion and Rodrigues. If you want a special child meal for your child, you must book your child’s meal at least 24 hours before the flight.
