What is Air Mauritius’ policy with regard to hand baggage?
Each passenger traveling on Air Mauritius flights has a hand baggage allowance. This allowance depends on the class of travel. However, some airports have more restrictive conditions than Air Mauritius policy regarding the number and weight of hand baggage and may require that hand baggage be tagged at check-in.
What is Air Mauritius’ policy with regard to checked baggage?
Air Mauritius policy with regard to checked baggage is determined by the route. On international routes, the Piece Policy applies to checked baggage while, on domestic routes, the free baggage allowance and excess baggage fees are determined by the Weight Policy.
For safety reasons, most airports, including the airport of Mauritius, limit the weight of each bag to 32 kg. Also, if the total dimension of one piece exceeds 300 cm, such oversized baggage will not be allowed as checked baggage at check-in.
What baggage policy applies on itineraries involving Air Mauritius and other airlines?
On multi-sectors routes on Air Mauritius and other airlines (other than Air France), the Most Significant Carrier (MSC) will be automatically determined in the computer reservation and ticketing systems as per IATA baggage rules. In the event that a passenger has excess baggage over and above the baggage allowance indicated on the ticket, the excess baggage fees as per the baggage policy of the Most Significant Carrier (MSC) will apply.
Hand Baggage
With Air Mauritius, passengers are entitled to a free hand baggage allowance, restricted as follows:
- One piece of hand baggage in Economy Class.
- Two pieces of hand baggage in Business Class.
- Each piece of hand baggage not exceeding 7 kg and 115 cm (55 x 35 x 25 cm / 21.7 x 13.8 x 9.9 in).
You can exceed the allowed weight for carry-on if you pay a carry-on fee per kg. Air Mauritius allows you to add up to 5 kilos to your carry-on bag (up to max. 12 kg per piece) for a EUR 10 per kg fee.
For their comfort, passengers may also bring on board personal items such as a handbag, overcoat, blanket, wrap, laptop, camera, binoculars, infant carrying basket, baby food to be consumed in-flight, umbrella, walking stick, as well as a reasonable quantity of duty-free purchases.
On codeshare flights, the operating airline’s rules may apply. For example, on Mauritius-Europe flights operated by Air France, passengers traveling in Economy Class have a hand baggage allowance of one piece with dimensions of 35 x 55 x 25 cm plus one accessory, with a total weight of max. 12 kg.
Equipment required by persons with disabilities (e.g. collapsible wheelchairs, folding wheelchairs, a pair of crutches, and/or braces) is allowed on board free of charge, either in the cabin, if space permits, or in the hold.
