Children 5 to 14 years old inclusive may travel alone as Unaccompanied Minors (UM) on Air Mauritius flights.
When is the Unaccompanied Minors service mandatory?
The age range determines the compulsory Unaccompanied Minor status of children. The Unaccompanied Minors service is mandatory for a child aged between 5 and less than 15 years old, not accompanied by a passenger 15 years old or more.
Passengers aged from 15 to 17 years old may travel alone as Young Persons (YP). A Young Person should not be seated at exits and should be helped with their documentation. There is no limitation to the carriage of Young Persons.
Unaccompanied Minors Service
When children travel as Unaccompanied Minors, flights cannot be booked online. The parent/guardian must request the Unaccompanied Minors service at the time the flight is booked and fill out the necessary documentation. However, Unaccompanied Minors are not allowed to travel on flights that are not operated by Air Mauritius for travel to Paris and via Paris (the restriction applies equally to both interline and codeshare partners).
When a child is accepted as an Unaccompanied Minor, Air Mauritius will assume responsibility for the child from the time the parent/guardian passes the child into the care of Air Mauritius at the airport of departure until the child is handed over to the person meeting him/her at the airport of arrival. The person seeing off the Unaccompanied Minor must wait at the airport of departure until the flight has left. The parent/guardian is responsible for ensuring that the child is met at the destination.
For an interline journey, Air Mauritius will assume responsibility for the child when another carrier hands him/her over to or conversely until he/she is handed over to another airline.
For Unaccompanied Minors, the applicable fare for the Unaccompanied Minors service is the adult fare. A service fee may apply.
