Unaccompanied Minor Service
When Unaccompanied Minor Service is mandatory, you must notify Airtran Airways that you are making a reservation for a child traveling alone. Also, you must provide the requested information about the adult picking up the child at the destination. Unaccompanied Minor Service is not available for purchase when booking Airtran-only or shared itineraries through Southwest Airlines channels.
Restrictions
Children traveling alone are not accepted as Unaccompanied Minors on Airtran Airways flights in the following situations:
- The final destination is in another country (international flights).
- The itinerary requires a change of aircraft or flight number (connecting flights).
- Airtran Airways, in its sole discretion, anticipates the flight to terminate short of or bypass the child’s final destination.
- The child traveling alone is over 12 years old.
Drop-off and Pick-up
Unaccompanied Minors must arrive at the airport accompanied by an adult and check-in at the ticket counter. Enough time in advance should be allotted for checking-in and passing through security in order for the Unaccompanied Minor to be present at the gate before boarding begins.
The Unaccompanied Minor must be at the boarding gate and presented to an Airtran Airways gate agent at least 1 hour before scheduled departure. Airtran Airways offers priority boarding to Unaccompanied Minors. Before general boarding begins, the child traveling alone will be courtesy-boarded and introduced to the Fight Attendant as an Unaccompanied Minor. When missed the opportunity to preboard, the Unaccompanied Minor will be the last to board the aircraft in order to be properly introduced to the Flight Attendant. The adult dropping off the child must remain in the gate area until the plane has taken off.
The Flight Attendant will escort the Unaccompanied Minor off the plane and will release the minor only in the custody of the designated adult or another Airtran Airways Crew Member. The adult picking up the child at the final destination must present a valid photo ID and sign a release form.
If the adult listed in the reservation does not meet The Unaccompanied Minor at the destination, Airtran Airways will make every effort to contact him or the adult sending the child. If unable to contact any of the adults listed in the reservation, Airtran Airways will transport the Unaccompanied Minor at the originating city at the expense of the adult who sent the Unaccompanied Minor.
Fees
Airtran Airways fee for Unaccompanied Minor Service is $ 50 one-way and $ 100 roundtrip. The fee is nonrefundable if the travel does not take place.
