FrDoes Asiana Airlines offer services for children traveling alone?
Asiana offers the Unaccompanied Minor (UM) Service for children aged between 5 and 11 years (inclusive) traveling on international flights and for children between 5 and 12 years (inclusive) traveling on South Korean domestic flights.
Does Asiana offer services for young passengers traveling alone?
Only on international flights, the Young Passenger Traveling Alone (YPTA) Service is offered for youths aged between 12 and 16 years old who are traveling without a supervisor. The service is not available on South Korean domestic flights.
Unaccompanied Minor (UM) and Young Passenger Traveling Alone (YPTA) Service
Passengers should apply for the service at the Asiana Airlines Reservation Center at least 24 hours before the date of departure. If you request the UM/YPTA Service the day of the flight, it may not be possible for the child to travel. Upon service request, the adult must provide the personal information and contact number of the persons who will accompany/await the child at the departure/arrival airport.
You can download the UM/YPTA application and complete it in advance. The application must be submitted at the airport check-in counter. The UM documents (UM travel application and guardian pledge) should be filled out. The airport application may be denied if the minor hasn’t got the necessary documents.
Children traveling alone must be accompanied to the airport of departure by a parent or responsible adult who shall remain with the child until enplaned and satisfactory evidence is presented that the child will be met at the airport of stopover or destination by another parent or responsible adult upon deplaning.
Asiana’s UM/YPTA Service offers assistance for children to get their seat number and process baggage at the counter. A responsible Asiana staff member will accompany the child/young through Immigrations and security search before proceeding to the gate for boarding. Once on board, the crew will take care of the child/young and ensure a safe trip. At the airport of transfer, an Asiana staff member will guide and transfer the child to the crew of the airline operating the connecting flight. After arriving at the destination, an Asiana staff member will go through immigration and baggage claim with the child and guide him/her to the guardian who is waiting.
Service Fee
The Unaccompanied Minor Service is offered free of charge on South Korean domestic flights. Asiana charges a fee when the Unaccompanied Minor Service is requested for international flights, and you should inquire about this fee at Asiana Reservation Center before applying for the service.
The Young Passenger Travelling Alone Service incurs a fee of approximately 150 USD or 10,000 miles one-way.
Special UM Regulation – Philippines
Children younger than 15 years old entering Philippines without a parent need to prepare documents and pay a fee to the Philippine Authority under WEG (Waiver of Exclusion Ground) regulations. If the regulations are not followed, the child may be prohibited from entering the country.
