FrWhich rules apply for babies traveling on Calm Air flights?
A child who is under two years old can travel at no charge on Calm Air flights, on the condition that he or she is traveling together with an adult passenger who pays a fare. This passenger needs to be 16 years old or older, and the child must be seated on the adult’s lap for all the duration of the flight. Only one infant per adult fare-paying passenger is allowed.
When do I have to book a seat and purchase a ticket for my baby?
After your child’s second birthday, you will need to purchase a separate seat for him or her. However, if you decide to book a seat for your infant even though he or she is not older than 2 years old yet, you can book it. It is important to know that you can reserve a separate seat for your child only if you have a suitable restraint device.
Infant on Lap
If your child is less than 2 years of age, you only need to notify Calm Air that you will be traveling with a baby on your lap. For security reasons, you must hold him or her during the take-off, landing, whenever the seatbelt signs are illuminated and when it is requested by the personnel flight crew.
Fees
A child who is under two years of age can travel with no charge. Therefore, identification is needed in order to prove his or her age.
Baggage Allowance
Passengers who are travelling with a baby who is under two years of age may check in a stroller or car seat at no extra charge, but the regular free luggage allowance (carry-on and checked baggage) does not apply to a baby when a seat is not purchased for him or her. Only fare-paying passengers are entitled to a free baggage allowance. A playpen may be substituted for either the stroller or car seat.
Children and Babies with Reserved Seats
If a seat is bought for an infant, he or she must be restrained in a Transport Canada approved car seat. The AmSafe CARES device is precisely considered for children of ages 1 to 4, whose weight is between 10 to 20 kg or 22 to 44 pounds, and whose height is up to 100 cm or 40 inches. This device uses the existing passenger safety belt and holds the child’s upper torso against the seatback. A harness and clasp device that attaches straight to the aircraft seat is allowed on board Calm Air aircraft.
Fees
Some discounts may apply for children or families traveling with children. Calm Air now offers a 10% discount off all regular published fares for children. The child discount is offered for children aged 2-11 years accompanied by an adult but is not available online. For details about this discount, please contact Calm Air directly.
Also, the new Family Travel Plan offers discounted fares for families of 3 to 10 members. The offer is not available online. For more information on pricing and availability, you must contact the Reservation Department or submit a request online.
Baggage Allowance
As fare-paying passengers, children occupying a seat are entitled to regular free luggage allowance.
Amenities on Calm Air flights
Pre-boarding is accessible for passengers traveling with little children. Complimentary coffee, juice, soft drinks or light snacks like pretzels, cookies, breakfast bars, and others are provided on some flights. Calm Air provides meal service on flights longer than 2 hours. Passengers are welcome to bring their own food on board.
