Does Cathay Dragon allow passengers to travel with pets?
Except Service Animals, Cathay Dragon does not accept passengers traveling with pets. On any Cathay Dragon flight, animals such as cats, dogs and any other pets cannot be accepted as checked baggage. You can only transport your pet as cargo on Cathay Dragon flights.
Service Animals
Regulations issued by Hong Kong government authorities allow Cathay Dragon to accept only dogs as Service Animals. Service Animals include guide, hearing, service, emotional support, and psychiatric service dogs, which must be accredited by Assistance Dogs International, Assistance Dogs Europe, or International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF).
With regard to importation and transit of dogs into Hong Kong, including Disability Assistance Dogs, there are very strict regulations imposed by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD). A Special Permit must be obtained from AFCD, in advance, in order for a Disability Assistance Dog to be brought into or transit through Hong Kong. Transportation of a Service Dog in the passenger cabin is considered separately from the issue of the Special Permit, and additional prior approval is also required. Passengers wishing to travel with a Service Dog in the aircraft cabin must submit to AFCD an additional request.
Cathay Dragon accepts one Service Dog per passenger. However, in the event that a passenger wants to travel with two Service Dogs, every reasonable effort to accommodate the passenger will be made. In order to accommodate the animals in accordance with safety regulations, an extra seat could be purchased.
The passenger is solely responsible for the care and supervision of the dog during the flight. Larger dogs shall be accommodated on the floor, at the passenger’s feet, while smaller dogs may be carried on lap. The Service Dog must be properly harnessed, and the dog’s leash secured to the passenger’s seatbelt at all times during the flight.
