What are the conditions for acceptance of infants on Cathay Pacific flights?
Cathay Pacific allows an infant to travel after the first week of delivery if the baby is in good health. The baby must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
When do I have to reserve a seat for my child?
An infant fare will be charged when they travel with a parent or guardian, and the infant does not occupy a seat. The baby must be under 2 years old throughout the whole journey. If the infant turns 24 months old before the return trip, applicable tax, fee, child’s fare, and charges apply.
The infant fare is calculated from a discount applied to the adult fare. If the infant discount is not offered for the adult fare purchased, the next higher fare that offers the infant discount will be used as the base for calculation. The infant fare is subject to ticket rules and conditions.
You have to reserve a seat for your child only if you want your infant under 24 months old to have their own seat and the usual baggage allowance, or when your child turns two years old before the return trip.
Can an adult travel with more than one infant on Cathay Pacific flights?
Up to two babies can be accepted to travel with each parent or guardian under the following conditions:
- One infant must have reached 6 months and travel in an infant car safety seat. The applicable child fare will apply.
- The other baby must be secured onto the parent’s lap with a child restraint device. The infant fare will be charged.
- The parent or legal guardian should bring their own infant car safety seat which must comply with Cathay Pacific’s approved specifications.

Baggage Allowance
On Cathay Pacific flights, infants not occupying a seat are entitled to a free baggage allowance of 1 bag with total dimensions of 115 cm (45 in) and the maximum weight of the travel class, 23 kg (50 lbs) in Economy and Premium Economy, and 32 kg (70 lbs) in Business and First class, plus a car seat and a stroller.
When you are traveling with a child or an infant, you may carry on board free of charge an approved car safety seat, a small bag of food and nappies (for consumption on the flight), and/or an umbrella-type collapsible stroller (if cabin stowage is available). Baby buggies must be checked as hold baggage. For hygiene reasons, any personal food items brought on board for consumption should not require reheating, or chilling.
Bassinets
Each aircraft (except Airbus A321neo aircraft) is equipped with special baby bassinets. A bassinet measures 76.20 cm wide (30″) x 38.10 cm length (15″) x 20.32 cm deep (8″) and can carry babies up to 12 kg. However, a baby older than 6 months may feel uncomfortable in a bassinet. If a passenger is traveling with an infant, the request for a baby bassinet (BSCT) can be made at the time of reservation.
Infants with Reserved Seats and Children
If you prefer to purchase a seat at a child fare for your infant, you must call the local Reservations Office or Online Services Support for ticketing assistance. Besides the items (approved car safety seat, small bag of food and nappies, collapsible, baby buggy) that you may carry or check free of charge when traveling with your child, children and infants with reserved seats have the same baggage allowance as adult passengers.
Infant and Child Car Seats
When traveling with children aged under 3 years, you can bring your own car safety seat for use onboard the aircraft. A separate passenger seat must be purchased for the infant or child occupying the car safety seat. The infant occupying the safety seat must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian or a travel companion of at least 18 years of age, in the next passenger seat.
Car seats may be used on the following aircraft:
- Economy Class – all aircraft.
- Premium Economy Class – Boeing B777 300 (77A), Boeing B777 300 (77K), Boeing B777 300 (77P) (on select aircraft), Airbus A350-1000, Airbus A350-900 (35G), Airbus A330 300 (33K).
- Business Class – Airbus A350-1000, Airbus A350-900 (35G).
- First Class – Boeing B777 300 (77A).
Subject to Cathay Pacific’s requirements, forward-facing approved car safety seats are allowed. Rear-facing car seats are also permitted if the use of the seat will not cause any impact on other passengers’ comfort. Due to safety requirements, car safety seats may not be used on some aircraft or on selected seats equipped with an airbag seatbelt.
Amenities
Each aircraft is equipped with special baby bassinets and has at least two toilets with special fold-down tables for changing babies. Kids from 3 to 6 years old will be offered a colorful children’s fun pack with stationery, games, and activity books. This service is not applicable on flights solely within Northeast and Southeast Asia. Cathay Pacific serves children’s meals with colorful cutlery. Special infant and junior meals are also available for very young children and toddlers.
The use of children’s sleeping devices on board is subject to Cathay Pacific’s acceptance. Devices such as a JETKIDS Bedbox that do not cause any impact on other passengers’ comfort or affect the functionalities of a seat are accepted, but devices such as a Fly LegsUp and Flyebaby hammock are not accepted.
