What is China Airlines policy on carry-on baggage?
Carry-on baggage includes cabin baggage, personal and special items. Each passenger has a free cabin baggage allowance, based on travel class, in addition to which personal and special items may be carried on board.
What is China Airlines policy on checked baggage?
On China Airlines flights, all passengers (including infants) have a free baggage allowance. Depending on route, free baggage allowances will be calculated by piece (Piece System), or per kilogram (Weight System). Passengers with checked baggage exceeding the free baggage allowance will be charged excess baggage fees.
Carry-on Baggage
The cabin baggage is permitted in the aircraft cabin only if it can be safely stowed under the seat or in the overhead bin. For all classes, each cabin bag may not exceed 56 x 36 x 23 cm (22 x 14 x 9 in) in size and 7 kg in weight. Based on travel class, each passenger has a free cabin baggage allowance as follows:
- Business Class – one piece of cabin baggage plus a garment bag (maximum 20 cm thick after folding).
- Economy Class – one piece of cabin baggage.
One of the following personal items may be carried on board, free of charge and in addition to the above cabin baggage allowance:
- Handbag or lady’s purse.
- Small camera and/or pair of binoculars.
- A reasonable number of duty-free items.
- Umbrella.
- Laptop computer.
- Infant’s napkins, feeding bottle and food for consumption in flight
- Reading material (a reasonable amount).
- Food contained in disposable packaging (for consumption during the flight).
The following special items may be carried on board only if storage space is available in the cabin:
- Child safety seat, baby bassinet, stroller.
- Canes, crutches, prosthetic devices/braces.
- Assistive devices and medical equipment or supplies.
Checked Baggage
The Weight System applies for regions/countries other than territories in the US and Canada and certain countries in South and Central America. The weight limit that applies for the free baggage allowance is based on the travel class.
The Piece System applies for travel to/from territories in the US and Canada and certain countries in South and Central America.The free baggage allowance is set by three limits, the number of pieces and maximum size and weight:

Excess Baggage Fees
Passengers with checked baggage exceeding the free baggage allowance will be charged for excess baggage. Under the Weight Concept, the fee is calculated on the basis of each extra kilogram above the free baggage allowance and may vary from route to route:
- Zone 1: Taiwan
- Zone 2: Mainland China, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia, Myanmar).
- Zone 3: Northeast Asia (Japan, South Korea).
- Zone 4: South Asia (India), Oceania (Australia and New Zealand).
- Zone 5: Europe (United Kingdom, Netherland, Austria, Germany, Italy).
Under the Piece System, the applicable Unit Rate shall apply to additional pieces (starting with the 3rd piece):
- Zone 6: USA and Canada.
- Zone 7: Central & South America.

Any piece with a size between 158 cm (62 in) and 203 cm (80 in) will be treated as oversized baggage and charged the applicable Unit Rate.
Passengers with overweight pieces, Economy Class passengers with baggage (including first two pieces) weighing between 23 and 32 kg and Economy Premium passengers with baggage (including first two pieces) weighing between 28 and 32 kg, will be charged the Economy Extra Charge:
- TWD 1,000 – from Taiwan.
- CAD 32 – from Canada.
- USD 32 or equivalent local currency – from the US and other countries.
Any piece of checked baggage will be charged for each limit exceeded (number, size and weight). For example, an oversized additional piece will be charged twice the applicable Unit Rate (all classes), and an overweight additional piece will be charged the applicable Unit Rate plus the Economy Extra Charge.
Any baggage exceeding the total dimensions of 203 cm (80 in) and/or the weight of 32 kg (70 lbs) shall not be carried unless prior arrangements have been made with China Airlines.
Sporting Equipment
Some sporting equipment (like golf bags and snow/water skiing equipment) may be included in the free baggage allowance. Surfboards & windsurfing equipment shall not be included in the checked baggage allowance when traveling to/from/within South West Pacific and when the Piece System applies. China Airlines will charge some sporting equipment at a lower rate:

Baggage Services
If your checked baggage is missing, delivered late or damaged, you must report to China Airlines local airport office or ground handling agent immediately upon arrival and complete a Property Irregularity Report. If you discover that your baggage has been damaged or that articles are missing from your baggage after leaving the airport, you may submit your claim in writing to the local airport office within 7 days. If your trip involves more than one carrier, you must contact the last carrier of your trip for any baggage problems.
