Does China Airlines offer special services for children traveling alone?
China Airlines provides special services, the Unaccompanied Minors Service and the Young Passenger Escort Service, so you can rest assured when your child has to travel alone.
What age conditions apply to services for children traveling alone?
The Unaccompanied Minors Service is provided to young passengers whose ages are between 5 and 12 years old. A child less than 12 years old is considered Unaccompanied Minor if:
- He/she is not accompanied by a parent or an adult passenger aged 18 years or older.
- The child is less than 8 years old and is not sitting in the same compartment with the accompanying adult passenger.
- The child doesn’t have the same origin/destination as the accompanying adult passenger.
The Young Passenger Escort Service is provided, on an optional basis, to children aged from 12 to under 18 years traveling alone.
Unaccompanied Minors Service
Bookings for Unaccompanied Minors must be made at least 72 hours prior to departure. Unaccompanied Minors are not allowed to travel in Business Class. Parents or legal guardians must sign the Consent & Release for Carriage of Unaccompanied Minors in order to apply for the Unaccompanied Minors Service. The adult fare applies to Unaccompanied Minors traveling in Economy Class or Premium Economy Class.
Young Passenger Escort Service
Young Passenger Escort Service is available on all China Airlines and Mandarin Airlines scheduled flights (excluding codeshare flights operated by other carriers). If a Young Passenger has an onward connecting flight on other airlines, China Airlines staff at the connecting station will help escort the passenger to the transit counter of the receiving carrier at the airport.
The request for this escort service must be submitted at least 24 hours before flight departure, when the reservation is confirmed or after confirmation. When booking online, you may opt to request the service after purchase and pay the service charge 24 hours before flight departure.
Payment for the Young Passenger Escort Service must be completed at the China Airlines ticketing counter before flight departure. The YP optional fee is USD 75 one-way. When notification of cancellation is made before flight departure, 20% of the fee paid will be forfeited as non-refundable. If no notification is made, the fee paid is non-refundable.
