In 2000, Yildiray Karaer and Atilay Uslu founded Corendon Group as a tour operator responsible for the design, sale and execution of holiday trips to Turkey, Egypt Greece, Bulgaria, Morocco, Israel, Portugal, and Tunisia, as well as the sale of properties in Turkey. In 15 years, Corendon has become a leading, highly successful tour operator and the number 1 tour company when it comes to many Turkish and other popular holiday destinations in Europe and beyond.
In 2004, Corendon Airlines was founded, in order to better respond to the needs of the customers. Corendon Airlines is a Turkish airline with headquarters in Antalya. Corendon Airlines flies mainly from Europe, including the Netherlands, to Antalya.
In April 2005, Corendon Airlines started operations with two Boeing 737-300 aircraft. Corendon Airlines carried 220,000 passengers in 2005.
In April 2010, Corendon Airlines added to its fleet the first two Boeing 737-800 aircraft. With a fleet of 7 aircraft in total, Corendon Airline carried 930,000 passengers in 2010.
In April 2011, Corendon Dutch Airlines, the sister company of the Turkish airline Corendon Airlines, started operations under its own air operator’s certificate. Corendon Dutch Airlines was founded because Corendon Airlines is not allowed to fly from Netherlands to destinations outside Turkey. Corendon Dutch Airlines is a Dutch branch of the Corendon Group serving European holiday destinations from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
In March 2012, Corendon Airlines painted a Boeing 737-300 with the Kids & Co. logo to promote its new focus on family vacations with its special holiday packages for families.
Since July 2014, Corendon Airlines is a member of IATA. In 2012, Corendon Airlines was granted the IOSA (Operational Security Audit) certificate, which is one of the preconditions of the IATA membership.
In April 2015, Corendon Airlines added the 11th aircraft to its fleet, a Boeing 737-800 fitted with Split Scimitar Winglets. This winglet design, which was first used in the world last year by Southwest and United Airlines, will be used by Corendon Airlines for the first time in Turkey. The latest addition to Corendon’s fleet was also the first aircraft to be painted in the new livery. Corendon introduced a new logo and a new corporate identity centered on the sun, sea, and sand (red, yellow, and blue).
In 2016, Atmosfair, a tourism-based environmental and climate protection agency, ranked Corendon Airlines fourth among the cleanest airlines in the world in terms of carbon emissions per passenger. Also that year, Corendon Airlines introduced new uniforms to match Corendon’s new logo.
In 2017, Corendon established Corendon Airlines Europe, a charter subsidiary based at Malta International Airport. As part of a strategy to expand operations with flights to major European cities, Corendon Airlines Europe commenced operations in May, with Malta-Naples service operated with Boeing 737-800NG aircraft with 189 Economy seats.
In May 2018, Corendon Airlines added to its fleet the first Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, becoming the first Boeing 737 MAX operator in Turkey. The Boeing 737 MAX 8 is configured with 189 Economy seats and, its first commercial flight was from Antalya to Eindhoven. Corendon Airlines signed a new agreement for three more Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, two to be delivered in 2019 and one in 2020.
No fatal accidents involving Corendon Airlines were registered so far.
