How can I check in for an easyJet flight?
When traveling on an easyJet flight, there are available the following choices for passengers to make the check-in process before their arrival to the airport:
- Online Check-in.
- Mobile Check-in.
A particular situation about easyJet, is the fact that it closed all its airport check-in desks, in an effort to encourage passengers to do the check-in process online. In this sense, these desks were replaced by Bag Drop desks, useful for those travelers who wish to travel with hold luggage. Passengers who are not able to check in online will still have the possibility to do this process at the airport at no charge. However, it is expected that this facility will only be used in exceptional circumstances.
When must I check in for my easyJet flight?
EasyJet is an Online Check-in only airline. Therefore, Online Check-in is available from 30 days up to 2 hours before the scheduled time for departure.
Checking-in and printing your boarding pass at the airport is possible in exceptional circumstances at a Bag Drop desk or easyJet Sales or Customer Service desk. Due to the intensified security measures carried out at all airports across Europe, the easyJet Bag Drop desks close 40 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time of all flights, in order to ensure that travelers have enough time to go through all the security checks without causing a flight delay. Exceptions from the above check-in deadline are flights departing from airports in Israel, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan and Serbia, where the check-in deadline is 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
EasyJet advises you to check in two hours prior to the scheduled departure time, and after this, proceed straightaway through security controls, so that you arrive at the departure gate at the latest 30 minutes before the departure of the flight.
Online Check-in
This method is quick, easy and free; besides, it saves you time when you arrive at the airport. As it has been said before, you can check in online and also print your boarding pass starting 30 days before departure up to 2 hours prior to the scheduled departure time. Any other flights, including the return flight, will also be accessible when you check in online on condition that these flights are scheduled within 30 days.
Online Check-in is available to all passengers (traveling with an infant on lap, requiring special assistance at the airport, etc.), with one exception: when a separate seat has been purchased for an infant via Customer Services. In this case, you may not be able to select two seats together and check in online, and, at the airport, you’ll need to find an easyJet representative or go to an easyJet Sales or Customer Service desk to complete check-in and get boarding passes.
There are three means to do this type of check-in:
- Select ‘Manage bookings’ on the top right side of easyJet homepage, this page is available only if you have made your original reservation online via easyJet.com.
- Choose ‘Check-in online’ on the top right side of the homepage.
- Select the link to go to ‘Check-in online’ on the online check-in reminder email that was sent to you.
The airline recommends you to print your boarding passes for all related flights before you leave home. If you do not have a printer, it will be good that you save the boarding pass and email it to someone else who has printing facilities. Please keep in mind that at the airport, due to security reasons, you will be asked to show your online boarding card with the suitable photo ID.
If you are traveling with a carry-on bag only, you can head straight to airport security controls with your printed online boarding pass. Please be sure to have the precise travel documents. However, if you are carrying checked luggage to the airport, all the airports have Bag Drop desks or kiosks, which allow you to deliver your luggage easily and quickly. Bag drop desks normally close 40 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of the flight. The bag drop desks at airports in Israel, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan and Serbia close 60 minutes before the scheduled time for departure so it will be helpful to verify your boarding pass for specific details.
It is important also to know that if there is a change of the details concerning your flight or specific details of you, you will have to check in and print your boarding pass once again. This is required in the following situations:
- If you have changed the details on your booking, such as passenger’s name, destination and date, or if you have added a baby to it, have required special assistance or specific seat allocation, you will need to do the Online Check-in process again and print your new boarding pass since the original one will no longer be usable.
- If happens that your flight has been cancelled or delayed, and you have transferred to a different flight, you will have to do both procedures once again.
- If there is a schedule change of a flight, your printed boarding pass will turn out to be invalid, and you will have the need to print it out again, even though the difference in the flight departure or arrival time is only five minutes.
Mobile Check-in
For iPhone, iPod Touch and Android users, easyJet puts at disposition a free app to which Mobile Check-in and Mobile Boarding Passes have been added, all this related to any flight departing from 100 airports. Many airports now provide multiple boarding passes per flight for up to five passengers traveling as a group or family. They can access all their boarding cards on one device.
Mobile boarding passes make everything easier because they allow you to maintain all your information related with your trip in one single place. You do not need to keep searching for a printer. All you need to do is the check-in process through the easyJet app up to 2 hours before the scheduled departure time of your flight and after that download your boarding pass on your Android or iPhone mobile device. This boarding pass is saved in your device, and the only thing to do is to have it scanned at the bag drop desks, at security verification points and at the boarding gate. You will also need to present it when you are boarding the aircraft. In order to access your boarding pass you do not need to have an internet connection because, once it is downloaded, it is stored offline (this way you will not have any roaming charges). You do not need to have an easyJet account, just see which flights you need to check in for. If you are travelling only with hand baggage, you just have to go directly to the security points and then to your correspondent boarding gate.
If your infant is traveling on your lap, once you check in, you’ll receive a single mobile boarding pass that is valid for both you and your infant. You won’t be able to access two separate mobile boarding passes on your mobile device if you’ve paid for a separate seat for the infant via Customer Services.
Boarding
EasyJet operates with assigned seating on all its flights and functions with a strict system of priority boarding. Passengers will be able to board the aircraft in the following order:
- Passengers who have requested Special Assistance.
- easyJet Plus Speedy Boarding passengers.
- Hands Free passengers (passengers who have purchased this travel extra to drop their cabin bag off at easyJet Plus Bag Drop).
- Families with at least one child under 5 years old.
- All other passengers.
Please remember that the boarding gates regularly close 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time of the flights, so it is important to make sure you get to the airport in plenty of time.
For passengers who need special assistance and after prior organization with its staff, easyJet will do the best in order to help wherever possible, for example, providing more time for those passengers outside of the principal boarding groups. If you have specific necessities, please let the airline know by either pre-booking these when you make the reservation of your flight or advising the airline via the pertinent booking confirmation in Manage Bookings as a minimum of 48 hours prior to the scheduled departure time of your flight.
