Does Egyptair offer services for children traveling alone?
Egyptair offers guidance and assistance for children traveling alone. Children traveling alone – without the supervision of a parent, guardian, or person aged at least 15 years – are classified as Unaccompanied Minors. Also, children traveling in a different class or cabin than that of the parent or guardian are considered Unaccompanied Minors.
Are there age requirements for acceptance of children as Unaccompanied Minors?
Infants under 2 years of age will not be accepted for carriage as Unaccompanied Minors.
Children from 2 up to 6 years old traveling alone will be accepted for carriage only exceptionally and provided that the necessary arrangements have been done, and the procedure has been followed. These arrangements include the assignment of an extra air hostess.
Children from 6 up to 12 years old will be accepted for carriage as Unaccompanied Minors, provided that the necessary arrangements have been done, and the procedure has been followed.
Unaccompanied Minors Service
Children may travel unaccompanied on most routes depending on their age and provided the child does not require additional care. Egyptair policy with regard to Unaccompanied Minors only applies to Egyptair flights; in the case of codeshare flights operated by other carriers, other rules may apply. Also, if the itinerary includes a connecting flight on a different airline, you must inform yourself about that airline’s UM regulations.
To book travel for an Unaccompanied Minor, you must contact your local Egyptair office. The Egyptair Unaccompanied Minor form, which relieves Egyptair from any liability or responsibility of guardianship and provides the details for the escort on departure and arrival, must be completed and duly signed by the parent(s) and/or guardian.
A parent/guardian, or the authorized person nominated in Unaccompanied Minor form, must deliver the child to the airport of departure for check-in, at least 90 minutes prior to departure time for domestic flights and 2 hours prior to international flights. A ground staff representative will escort the minor through customs and immigration to their departure gate.
During the flight, the cabin crew will regularly check that the child is comfortable and entertained, and all staff will be aware of his/her requirements. After landing, the child will be attended by the ground staff, which will hand the child to the person nominated in Unaccompanied Minor form. This person must provide proof of identification. For travel to and from the US, Egyptair requires the parent or guardian to be present when dropping off or collecting the child from the terminal.
