What is El Al doing to ensure a safe journey for its passengers?
El Al does everything it can to make your flight experience safe and enjoyable within the limits of social distancing and maintaining hygiene. To put your mind at ease and help you, El Al is offering general information that you need to know about flying in these times:
- Information on terms of entry to Israel and other countries.
- New safety procedures and protocols.
- Flexible booking.
Information on Terms of Entry to Israel and Other Countries
You must stay up-to-date and comply with the laws and requirements of exiting the departure country and of entry to the destination country. El Al offers important “Before You Fly” information you need about terms of entry into and exit of Israel, as well as the terms of entry into El Al’s destination countries.
As most travelers require a COVID-19 test, you should know that the cost of the COVID-19 when entering and exiting Israel is your responsibility. Passengers are subject to a COVID-19 PCR test upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport and self-isolation until the test result is ready. The COVID-19 PCR test at the Ben Gurion Airport involves a fee, which is discounted for passengers who make reservations and pre-pay after completing the Health Declaration form.
New Safety Procedures and Protocols
The procedures at Ben Gurion Airport and airports abroad have changed, and it’s your responsibility to check and comply with the new guidelines, such as wearing a mask while in the airport, observing proper hygiene, including the use of hand sanitizers, keeping social distance, etc.
Due to the terms of entry and exit related to COVID-19, the flight check-in process and the boarding are taking longer than usual. To prevent crowding, boarding and disembarking are carried out in stages following crew instructions. All passengers will be permitted to board only if wearing a mask without a filtered valve.
To maintain hygiene, aircraft are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before the flight. Also, aircraft are equipped with advanced HEPA filters with an efficiency of about 99.97% in virus confinement. The air conditioning system replaces the air in the cabin every few minutes.
As a general rule, while on board the aircraft, all passengers at least 6 years of age (at least 2 years of age for flights from the US) must wear a mask, which must cover the mouth and nose, except when eating or drinking. A passenger may request a medical exemption from the mask requirement from 7 days to 48 hours before the flight. Submission of the Request for Medical Exemption from Mask Requirement form does not guarantee approval. Only approval by an EL AL physician can grant exemption from the mask requirement, which will be valid only after the passenger presents a negative PCR test performed within 48 hours before the flight, even if it’s not required by their destination country. Also, the exemption applies only while the passenger is seated on the plane, and a mask must be worn when moving around the cabin.
