What is Emirates doing to ensure a safe journey?
Since the start of the global COVID19-pandemic, health and wellbeing have been a top priority for everyone. Always prioritizing the health and safety of its customers and employees, Emirates took swift action to respond to the new situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic with enhanced biosafety measures, new protocols, and new innovative services and technologies. Emirates’ COVID-19 information hub offers all the information you want to know about:
- Travel requirements.
- Travel safety.
- Your ticket options.
Travel Requirements
It’s very important to prepare in advance for your journey, and Emirates offers you the necessary tools to do so:
- You can search for a specific route on Emirates’ current network to find out about traveling to your destination, including entry requirements, your safety when you fly with Emirates, and Emirates’ current services on that route.
- You can check specific travel requirements by the destination country to find out about entry restrictions, COVID‑19 testing requirements, forms required for travel, etc. If you’re planning to fly soon, check frequently for the latest requirements for your destination, including any stops for connecting flights.
- You can check the latest travel requirements for Dubai. Emirates offers ample information for traveling to or from Dubai, as well as connecting in Dubai. There are two separate sections, one for UAE residents and the other for tourists.
- You can check the list of authorized COVID‑19 test laboratories providing COVID-19 PCR test certificates in Dubai and the current countries served by Emirates for entry to Dubai. Special COVID‑19 PCR test rates may be available for Emirates passengers.
Travel Safety
You can feel confident about your wellbeing when you fly with Emirates, as the airline puts health and safety first with measures and protocols in place designed to enhance safety, along with industry-leading technologies:
- Mandatory face mask. You must wear a medical mask (the only one accepted on flights from Dubai to Austria, France, and Germany) or cloth throughout Dubai International Airport, as well as during boarding, on board, and during disembarkment. Children under 6 years old and passengers who have certain medical conditions do not have to wear a mask. If medical reasons impede you from wearing a mask throughout your journey, you need to complete a Medical Information Form (MEDIF) before your flight.
- Enhanced safety and disinfection measures on the ground and onboard:
- All Emirates employees wear face masks. The cabin crew wears full personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Floor markers to help you keep a safe distance throughout the airport and protective screens at check-in and transfer desks and between seats in the boarding area.
- You can use the separate self-check-in and bag drop kiosks. Now, the self-service check-in kiosks and bag drop machines offer a fully touchless experience. They can be completely controlled through a personal mobile device by scanning a QR code displayed.
- Boarding the aircraft is now done in small groups, from the last row to the first. The boarding gate areas are disinfected after every flight.
- Before every flight, all aircraft go through an enhanced cleaning and disinfection process. To maintain strict levels of hygiene, lavatories are frequently disinfected and, if the flight is longer than 90 minutes, Emirates adds to the cabin crew an extra member dedicated to cleaning lavatories.
- The air in the cabin refreshes every 2-3 minutes with a 50-50 mix of fresh air from outside and filtered air. The cabin air is constantly cleaned through advanced HEPA air filters able to catch 99.9% of viruses, bacteria, fungi, dust, and germs.
- To better prepare for the new flying experience, Emirates offers step-by-step safety guides. Infographics show you the measures put in place to keep you safe and what to expect on board and when arriving in Dubai, departing from Dubai, connecting in Dubai.
- Contactless journey. Emirates has sharpened its focus on technologies and services that optimize passenger processing to minimize queues for a fast-tracked experience that prioritizes safety and efficiency. You can look forward to an easier and hassle-free experience at Dubai International Airport with:
- Contactless check-in – use your mobile to operate the self-check-in and bag drop kiosks at Dubai International airport for a smoother journey.
- Biometric path – instead of reaching for your passport or boarding pass at every point, you can choose to register for biometric check-in. With just a quick photo at check-in to capture your facial data, you can then walk seamlessly through the secure Biometric Smart Zones in Concourse B, Emirates Terminal 3. Every time you’re in Dubai, breeze through the airport purely by facial recognition: check-in, clear immigration, access the airport lounges in Concourse B, and board your flight at selected gates.
- Digital verification of Covid-19 medical information – with the IATA Travel Pass App, it’s easier for you to have all your testing or vaccination information on hand while you travel. Emirates is currently in the trial period for the app, so the invitation to download the IATA Travel Pass App will be sent only to passengers on selected Emirates flights.
- Digital menus – available on the Emirates app allows you to browse the menus on your device, both online and offline.
