How can I check in for an Etihad Airways flight?
For passengers’ convenience and besides checking-in the traditional way at the Etihad counters at the airport, Etihad Airways offers two other options:
- Online Check-in.
- Home Check-in.
What deadlines do I need to consider when checking in at the airport?
At the airport, check-in opens at least 3-4 hours prior to departure. To ensure a stress-free passage to the boarding gate, you should be at the check-in counter at least 90 minutes before your flight departure time. Check-in closing time is 60 minutes prior to departure (exception, 75 minutes for Economy Class passengers for flights from Mumbai and Lagos). At some airports (e.g. Abu Dhabi, the US, the UK, etc.), First and Business Class passengers can check in up to 45 minutes prior to departure.
For all flights from Abu Dhabi to the US, check-in closes 2 hours before departure, and the US Preclearance facility at Abu Dhabi airport closes for acceptance 90 minutes before departure.
Online Check-in
For flights operated by Etihad Airways (not a codeshare partner), passengers can check in online or via the Etihad Airways app from 30 hours to 1 hour before departure. With a few clicks, passengers can choose their preferred seat, check in and print or download their boarding pass, ready to present at the Bag Drop counter at the airport. Without a printed boarding pass, you can’t avoid the airport check-in queues and may experience delays in checking in.
Online Check-in is not available if the special service Bassinet or Wheelchair is added to the booking.
Currently, you can only download your boarding pass if you’ve been Verified to Fly.
Verified to Fly
Verified to Fly is a service that allows you to have your COVID-19-related travel documents validated before you arrive at the airport. Verified to Fly is available for all flights, except flights to China, from 7 days before your flight departure. You should submit your documents through Manage my booking as soon as you receive your negative COVID-19 PCR test result, but no later than 6 hours before your flight departure. If you are using the IATA Travel Pass to receive your test results, you can share a screenshot of your ‘OK to fly’ status as proof of your PCR test result. If you meet all essential COVID-19 requirements and have been Verified to Fly, then you can download your boarding pass and fast track straight to the Verified to Fly desks. Your passport or visa will be checked when you arrive at the airport.
Home Check-in
Home Check-in is a service that lets you check in for your flight, choose your seat, check in your baggage, pay for extra baggage, collect your boarding pass and bag tags from the comfort of your home, office, or hotel, and even arrange for a COVID-19 PCR test at home with a certified technologist, available through Life Dx, Etihad’s medical partner.
You can book Home Check-in up to 7 hours before your flight departure. Home Check-in is available for all non-transit passengers traveling from Abu Dhabi International Airport. All passengers listed in the booking must be present at the time of Home Check-in, including infants and children. Home Check-in is not available for:
- Passengers traveling to the US.
- Unaccompanied Minors.
- Passengers traveling with pets.
- Passengers requiring medical assistance.
- Unconfirmed bookings.
The check-in location must be in Abu Dhabi within 70 km of Abu Dhabi International Airport. Check-in outside this radius is subject to availability and carries an additional charge.
There are three Home check-in packages you can choose from and to which you can add extra services:
- Home check-in – for AED 220, check-in for all passengers listed in the booking and up to four bags.
- Home check-in + bag disinfection – for AED 262, check-in for all passengers listed in the booking and up to four bags that, at collection, will be sterilized with a solution that is effective against viruses and bacteria for up to 72 hours.
- Home check-in plus – for AED 420, check-in for four passengers listed in the booking and up to four bags that, at collection, will be sterilized with a solution that is effective against viruses and bacteria for up to 72 hours, plus priority boarding and priority baggage collection at the destination.

- Priority boarding and baggage collection – AED 75 per person.
- COVID-19 PCR test at home – AED 239 per person.
Boarding
Passengers are required to report at the boarding gate at least 45 minutes before departure. Etihad Airways may cancel the space reserved for you and offload your checked baggage if you fail to arrive at the boarding gate on time. Boarding for all Etihad Airways flights closes 20 minutes prior to departure.
