What is Hawaiian Airlines doing to ensure a safe journey for its passengers?
Hawaiian Airlines is ready to welcome you back on board and, on its COVID-19 Updates page, offers you the tools and information to prepare for your upcoming trip:
- Travel requirements and Pre-Clear program.
- Face mask policy.
- Health safety measures.
- Change and cancellation policy.
Travel Requirements and Pre-Clear Program
To help you navigate the various travel requirements issued by different states and countries, the Hawaii COVID-19 Travel Information Center summarizes the process for all Hawaiian Airlines routes to, from, and within the Hawaiian Islands.
Since 2021, in coordination with the State of Hawaii, Hawaiian Airlines implemented across all its network its Pre-Clear Program, which is intended to ease the arrival process by validating the State of Hawaii’s pre-travel testing requirement before departure. All Hawaii-bound passengers can be pre-cleared by a Hawaiian Airlines guest service agent at their departure airport before boarding their flight.
Seeing a need for affordable, readily available pre-travel testing, Hawaiian Airlines also partnered with Worksite Labs to bring you convenient, drive-through COVID-19 testing located near select airports.
Face Mask Policy
In alignment with the latest TSA directive, face masks are optional for passengers and employees on board Hawaiian Airlines flights and at most U.S. airports (excluding John F. Kennedy International Airport). Passengers who wish to continue wearing a face mask are welcome to do so.
For international flights, masks are still required at all international airports served by Hawaiian Airlines, and certain countries also require that masks are worn in flight. Please bring masks with you when traveling internationally.
Health Safety Measures
In line with recommendations by leading public health authorities, Hawaiian Airlines has reinforced and enhanced cleaning procedures, layering health and safety measures through every part of the journey to better protect and give everyone confidence that it is okay to fly. The “Keeping You Safe” program includes:
- Distancing measures when checking in, boarding, and deplaning.
- Plexiglass shields at ticket counters and podiums.
- Frequent cleaning of self-service kiosks and counters.
- Detailed protocols for cleaning and disinfecting the aircraft, including electrostatic disinfection of cabins.
- After every transpacific flight, aircraft are thoroughly cleaned with hospital-grade, EPA- approved disinfectants that are effective against COVID-19. Aircraft operating neighbor-island flights are cleaned and disinfected daily.
- Special attention is paid to areas that are frequently touched, such as seats, seatbacks, headrests, IFE monitors, tray tables, overhead bins, walls, windows, and shades, as well as galleys and lavatories.
- On transpacific flights, the cabin air is cleaned through HEPA filters that create a dry and essentially sterile environment, inhospitable to the growth of viruses. On flights between the Islands, the air in the Boeing 717 cabins is not recirculated but instead continuously replaced with fresh, outside air controlled for temperature.
Hawaiian Airlines also encourages you to check in online or via the mobile app and use Touchless Bag Tags when checking in bags and traveling from Honolulu to North America or the Neighbor Islands.
Change and Cancellation Policy
Understanding that plans may change for a variety of reasons, Hawaiian Airlines wants you to be able to book a flight with confidence and flexibility. There are no change fees for guests who purchase tickets or redeem HawaiianMiles on any route and for all fares except Main Cabin Basic tickets. A fare difference may apply if the value of the original ticket price is exceeded by the fare of the rescheduled flight.
If you decide to cancel your trip, you will not be charged a cancellation fee, and the unused value of your ticket can be applied towards the purchase of a new ticket when you decide to rebook.
