Does Kenya Airways allow children to travel alone on their flights?
Unaccompanied Minors, children between the ages of 5 and 14 (inclusive) traveling alone, are allowed to travel with Kenya Airways. Kenya Airways will provide escort services only from the departing airport to their destination.
What fares and fees apply for Unaccompanied Minors on Kenya Airways flights?
The child discount does not apply for Unaccompanied Minors, even if they have between 5 and 11 years of age. Unaccompanied Minors will pay 100% of the applicable adult fare plus a handling fee.
The Unaccompanied Minor handling fee does not apply for:
- Domestic travel.
- Kool Flyers members, only on KQ network and on KQ operated flights.
Unaccompanied Minor Service
Advance reservation for the Unaccompanied Minor must be made at least 24 hours before departure. Unaccompanied Minors are accepted on Kenya Airways itineraries and also on itineraries involving a partner airline provided that the Unaccompanied Minor Service request has been confirmed by all airlines involved in the itinerary prior to travel.
The following restrictions apply in the case of connecting flights:
- No overnight connection.
- No connections to sectors by train/ bus.
- No change of airport allowed.
- No connection longer than 5 hrs.
Children traveling alone, unaccompanied, should be accompanied by their parents to the airport at the requested check-in time and picked up by the authorized adult at the disembarking port. You can visit the Kenya Airways website to download and fill out the Unaccompanied Minor form. Please make sure that you fill all the information requested to facilitate the child’s trip and that the child has a pouch or a pocket with all the complete information gathered and written down. This information will be collected at the check-in counter of Kenya Airways at the airport before the flight. Parents of the Unaccompanied Minor will be asked to stay at the airport until the flight in which their children are embarking has deplaned.
