What is Frontier Airlines policy on pet acceptance?
Frontier Airlines accepts pets in the cabin of the aircraft only. Frontier Airlines does not accept pets traveling as checked baggage.
Frontier Airlines accepts pets in the cabin on all domestic flights and international flights to/from Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic. Pets are not accepted on flights to/from Jamaica.
Which pets are accepted to travel on Frontier Airlines flights?
On domestic flights, domesticated dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, or small household birds are accepted.
On international flights, only domesticated dogs and cats are accepted if required health documents are provided by the passenger.
Pets in the Cabin
Frontier Airlines accepts only 10 pet containers per flight, so you must make advance reservation by calling Frontier Reservation to ensure availability and reserve space for your pet. Pets can’t be booked online, but the same low fares with no ticketing fee are offered through Frontier Reservations.
When traveling with a pet, you are responsible for making arrangements and assuming full responsibility for complying with any entry requirements (laws, customs and other governmental regulations) of the country, state or territory to which the pet is being transported. While Frontier Airlines does not require a health certificate for pets carried in the cabin traveling within the U.S., the certificate may be required by the state upon arrival.
Required health documents must be provided when traveling to/from a foreign destination. For international travel, a health certificate is required and must include the name and address of the owner, animal species, country of origin/destination, and, for all destinations except Costa Rica1, immunization against rabies within 12 months for adult pets 3 months of age or older. The immunization must be administered no earlier than 30 days prior to international travel otherwise proof of the prior rabies shot is required. The health certificate must be dated within 10 days of entry into the United States, 5 days of entry into Mexico, 14 days of entry into Costa Rica, and 15 days of entry into the Dominican Republic. Each country has vaccination requirements beyond rabies:
- A statement, on the health certificate, indicating that the pet is free from parasites and has been treated for parasite prevention is required for travel to Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
- Hepatitis, PIP, and leptospirosis vaccinations are recommended.
Frontier Airlines allows no more than one pet container per passenger. Due to limited space in the cabin, when you are bringing on a pet container, you may only carry one other personal item. The pet container always counts toward your carry-on allowance as your carry-on bag.
Your pet must remain in the pet container at all times, so you must be able to soothe your pet without taking him/her out from the pet container. Frontier Airlines recommends that You give your pet food or water within 4 hours of departure.
Frontier Airlines accepts up to 2 small animals (puppies or kittens 8-10 weeks old, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, and small household birds) to be transported in one pet container. The pet container must be large enough for your pet to turn around, stand, and lie down in a natural position and must fit underneath the seat in front of you. Seat restrictions apply depending on the aircraft type because certain seats cannot accommodate your pet container. Based on aircraft type, Frontier Airlines only accepts pet containers with the following maximum dimensions:
- 24" length x 15.5" width x 9.5" height – Airbus A318/A319/A320.
- 18" length x 13.5" width x 10" height – Embraer E190.
1In Costa Rica, adult pets are defined as pets 4 months of age and older.
