What is Olympic Air policy on pet acceptance?
Transporting pets on Olympic Air flights is allowed only in the cabin. Transportation of pets in the hold, as checked baggage, is not offered on Olympic Air flights, but is allowed on Aegean Airlines flights (operated with Airbus A319, A320, and A321).
Which pets are allowed to travel on Olympic Air flights?
Only cats, dogs and ferrets are allowed to travel in the passenger cabin. Pets must be a minimum of 12 weeks old. Some restrictions apply on the total number of pets that can be carried on each flight.
Which documents are required when traveling with a pet?
The Anti-Rabies vaccination is repeated every year, so the animal must have a valid Anti-Rabies vaccination on the day of travel. Animals should not travel if it had his first Anti-rabies vaccination, unless 21 days have passed from the date of vaccination. The same restriction applies in the event that the vaccination is applied after it had expired.
Pets must be in good health. The pet owners must also provide the check-in counter employee with the pet’s health booklet where the completion of all necessary vaccinations will be confirmed. The passport along with an ID microchip is mandatory for international flights.
Pets in the Cabin
All pets should be transported in special containers/cages. At domestic airports, special pet boxes are available for sale if you do not have your own.
On ATR 42 600, Dash 8 Q100 and Dash 8 Q400 aircraft, the dimensions of the pet container must not exceed 40 x 25 x 25 cm (L xW X H). On Aegean Airlines fleet, the pet container must not exceed 55 cm length x 40 cm height x 23 cm width. The total weight, pet along with the container, should not exceed 8 kg.
Pets must remain in their cage throughout the entire flight. The cage must be placed on the floor, safely locked, with no risk of leaks. Pets must be clean before entering into the cabin, stay quiet and also must not upset other passengers during the flight.
As the number of pets allowed on each flight is limited, passengers should contact the Reservations Department at least 48 hours before departure, in order to register the pet and to confirm its carriage. It is also possible to make a reservation for your pet online, at the time of booking. Passengers traveling with an infant are not allowed to take a pet in the cabin.
The fee for transporting a pet in the cabin varies depending on destination:
- Domestic flights
- 01/01-15/06 & 01/10-31/12 – EUR 20.
- 16/06 – 30/09 – EUR 30.
- International flights
- 01/01-15/06 & 01/10-31/12 – EUR 50.
- 16/06 – 30/09 – EUR 60.
Pets as Checked Baggage
If the pet and the container exceed the 8 kg weight limit, then it is only accepted for transportation in the hold of the aircraft, but only on Aegean Airlines fleet (Airbus A319, A320, and A321) and upon payment of the corresponding fee:

Service Dogs
A Service Dog trained to guide passengers with impaired vision or hearing or to assist epileptic or autistic passengers may travel in the cabin. The condition applies only if the animal accompanies a person who depends upon it for assistance due to health reasons. The animal’s health booklet, as well as veterinary documents, should be updated and certified according to international regulations. Service Dogs must be accredited by an organization that is a full member of Assistance Dogs International (ADI) or International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF). Only if the appropriate training certificate is available, an assistance dog accompanying a passenger in the cabin of the aircraft will be accepted. Assistance dogs must be properly harnessed, restrained. The service is provided free of charge.
