Are children allowed to travel alone on OpenSkies flights?
Children up to 12 years can fly with OpenSkies if they are accompanied by someone at least 16 years. They can also travel alone using the OpenSkies Solo Flyer service, the dedicated service that ensures children will be looked after throughout their journey with OpenSkies.
What age restrictions apply for the OpenSkies Solo Flyer service?
For children under 5 years, Solo Flyer is unavailable; in this case, your child must travel with someone aged at least 16 years.
For children aged 6 to 11 years, Solo Flyer is mandatory; you must book the service if you want your child to travel alone.
For children aged 12 to 17 years, Solo Flyer is available and optional; your child can travel alone, or you can book the Solo Flyer service for him/her.
Solo Flyer Service
You must request the Solo Flyer service at the time of booking, which should be made at least 48 hours before the flight. The Solo Flyer service can be booked only through the OpenSkies call centre or with a travel agent. You cannot book this service online. When you make the flight booking, you must buy an adult ticket for your child and pay the Solo Flyer fee of USD 100 per child; if this is not done at the same time, you will be charged a fee to cancel your child’s flight and reissue the ticket.
By booking the Solo Flyer service, OpenSkies staff will accompany your child throughout the journey until they are collected by the designated adult or transferring airline. At the airport, you must complete a declaration form at the airport which must include information regarding who will be meeting the child on arrival or the airline to which your child will transfer. An OpenSkies staff member will accompany your child to the aircraft where the cabin crew will look after your child. You must stay at the airport until the child’s flight has departed. On arrival, ground staff or appointed handling agents will take your child from the aircraft, through the arrival gates, to the person designated to collect them (identification required), or the airline to which your child will transfer.
