What is Philippine Airlines’ policy with regard to babies?

Philippine Airlines accepts for travel only infants at least 16 days old. Up to 2 years of age, babies may travel on the lap of an adult passenger (at least 18 years of age). For safety reasons, infants who turn two at the time of travel shall be required to occupy seats. According to PAL’s policy One-Infant-Per-Adult, when an adult travels with two infants, the second infant is required to occupy a separate seat.

What discounts are offered for babies traveling on Philippine Airlines flights?

Infants, with or without a separate seat, can be booked through the online booking system. The infant’s birth certificate is required when buying the ticket, and discounts are offered as follows:

• Infant not occupying a seat – 90% discount based on the accompanying adult’s fare.
• Infant occupying a seat and children (2 to 12 years of age):
  • International flights – 25% discount based on the accompanying adult’s fare.
  • Domestic flights – no discount.

Discounts may not apply for special fares.

Free Baggage Allowance

An infant who is not occupying a separate seat has the following Free Baggage Allowance:

When traveling with an infant, you may also be allowed one fully collapsible stroller, one carrying basket or one car seat, subject to availability of space.

When the child discount applies for the infant (when a separate seat is reserved), the infant is entitled to the same Free Baggage Allowance as the accompanying adult.

Bassinets

Passengers who travel with an infant and who require the use of a baby bassinet should book their flights and make the necessary reservations at least 24 hours before the departure date. Without prior reservation, Philippine Airlines reserves the right to decline bassinet requests.

Bassinets are available on all aircraft, except Airbus A320 & A321 and Bombardier Q300 & Q400, and only for flights with a flying time of 3 hours or more.As bassinets can only be attached to certain seats on the plane, their number is limited. An adult traveling with an infant (first adult only) and children under 12 years old (part of the traveling party) are exempt from the CESS (Choice Economy Seat Surcharge).

The  bassinets  are  about  70 cm long and 30 cm wide  and  have  a  weight limit of 10 kg, which makes them suitable for infants up to 6 months of age.

Child Restraint Systems (CRSs)

Because the safest way for an infant or child up to 7 years old to travel on board an aircraft is in an approved Child Restraint System, in a separate seat, Philippine Airlines encourages the use of an approved car seat or CRS.

The infant or child must be within the weight and height range specified by the car seat or CRS manufacturer. Booster seats are not allowed for use on board the aircraft. Car seats and CRS must meet the following criteria:

• Forward-facing and aft-facing CRSs must bear a label or mark indicating approval for aircraft use by an ICAO-member state (e.g., FAA, EASA, CASA, etc.)
• Car seats must meet the safety standards of an ICAO-member state approving it for use in aircraft.
• CARES Child Safety Device is the only harness-type restraint approved by the FAA for children weighing between 22 to 44 lbs and accepted as an alternative to using a hard-backed seat.
• The car seat or CRS must fit in the aircraft seat dimensions below:
