Are there any restrictions for acceptance of babies on SATA flights?
Babies may fly on SATA flights only after a week from birth. A passenger 15 years old may escort only 1 baby (INF). A birth certificate is required as proof of age for all infants under 2 years of age. The maximum number of infants accepted on board depends on the type of aircraft and specifically, on the number of available infant belts and additional oxygen masks.
Does SATA offer discounts for babies and children?
Babies (INF) are passengers that, at the date of the flight, are younger than 2 years and to which a seat is not allocated. Babies occupying a separate seat pay the child fare, and the booking must be made as CHD (even if it is an infant). Children (CHD) are passengers that are between the age of 2 and 11 years at the date of the flight. For infants and children, SATA offers discounts that vary depending on route and fare applied:
- 90% infant discount.
- 0 – 25-33% child discount, depending on route and fare.
Traveling with Babies and Children
Children and passengers traveling with babies must not be seated in emergency exit rows. Passengers with babies traveling on their lap may only be seated in seats where a supplementary oxygen mask is available. On Azores Airlines flights, bassinets are available on Airbus A310-300 aircraft for babies weighing up to 11 kg. A pre-seat request must be made and confirmed by SATA. The pre-seat service is free of charge for passengers traveling with infants.
Car-type infant seats, approved for use on board aircraft, may be used only if a separate seat has been reserved for the infant (booked as a CHD). During booking arrangements, you must inform SATA about the dimensions of the car-type infant seat you intend to use.
On Azores Airlines flights, milk bottles and food containers can be heated, and coloring books and pencils are distributed on board. Special seats and meals for babies can be requested when making a booking.
Baggage Allowance
When traveling with babies or children, SATA Air Açores/Azores Airlines will transport, free of charge, a baby stroller or basket and a baby chair as checked baggage. Also, passengers traveling with babies may take on board, in addition to their carry-on allowance, baby food and clothes to be worn during the flight.
When the infant fare is paid for the baby, infants are entitled to their own free checked baggage allowance:
