Does SATA Air Açores offer services for children traveling alone?
SATA Air Açores and Azores Airlines (formerly SATA International) provide special assistance, the Flight Accompaniment service and the Unaccompanied Minor service, to children from 3 months up to 12 years of age traveling without adult supervision.
Does SATA offer the same services for children 12 years old or more?
For young passengers 12 to 17 years old, only the Unaccompanied Minor service is available at the requested of parents or guardians.
Flight Accompaniment Service
The Flight Accompaniment Service is mandatory for children between 3 months and 4 years of age who need to travel alone. The service provides an additional hostess required to accompany children younger than 5 years. On an optional basis, the special accompaniment service is also available for children older than 4 years, only upon special request from parents or guardian.
This service must be requested when the booking is made. Children under 5 years of age must pay the adult fare and a surcharge for supervision by SATA staff. The Flight Accompaniment Service implies the payment of a surcharge equivalent to a one-way adult full fare. This charge is due for each child and for all legs on which the additional hostess is assigned.
Unaccompanied Minor Service
Children between the ages of 5 and 11 years are supervised after check-in and during the flight, until they reach the person collecting them. At the time of reservation, contact information and identification of the adult meeting the child at the destination airport must be provided. Payment of the Unaccompanied Minor fee should be made at the airport on the day of travel:
- 40 EUR for domestic flights and flights within Europe;
- 100 EUR for flight from Portugal to the United States and Canada.
- 150 CAD for flights from Canada to Portugal.
- 150 USD for flights from the United States to Portugal.
These fees are applied to flights operated by SATA Air Açores/Azores Airlines; on codeshare flights, the Unaccompanied Minor fee may change according to the company that operates the flight.
