FrDoes Saudi Arabian Airlines accept children traveling alone?
Children who are not accompanied by a passenger aged over 16 years are accepted as Unaccompanied Minors only. UM or UMNR is the abbreviated code for Unaccompanied Minors that will be used in all traffic references, and a charge will be assessed for the Unaccompanied Minor service on all flights.
What are the restrictions for the Unaccompanied Minors service?
Under 5 years of age, children are not accepted unaccompanied under any circumstances.
From 5 to 7 years of age, children are accepted as Unaccompanied Minors on nonstop or through flights only.
From 8 to 11 years of age, children are accepted for transportation only as Unaccompanied Minors on nonstop, through or connecting flights. The reservation must be confirmed to the final destination.
From 12 to 16 years of age, young passengers may be treated as Unaccompanied Minors upon request from their parents, if there is any doubt of the minor’s ability to travel alone, or if the minor is accompanying another child under 12 years of age.
Unaccompanied Minors Service
Unaccompanied Minors must be accompanied to the airport of departure by an escort (a parent or responsible adult). The escort’s name must be mentioned on the Handling Advice for UMs. The escort must deliver all documents necessary for travel to the handling or supervisor agent concerned. Saudi Arabian Airlines becomes fully responsible for the UM from the moment he/she is checked in and handed over by the parents or the authorized adult to the concerned staff. To ensure that the child will safely be transferred to a flight attendant, a Saudi Arabian Airlines ground staff member will personally guide the UM to the aircraft. The escort carries on responsibility for the UM until the flight is called for embarkation and has to stay at the airport until the respective aircraft is airborne.
The maximum number of Unaccompanied Minors carried on Saudia flights must not exceed the number of working cabin crew on those particular flights. All Unaccompanied Minors traveling on Saudia flight must be in possession of the written consent of their parents or guardian authorizing them to travel. In the event of interline carriage, approval from the participating carrier must be secured before confirming reservation.
Upon arrival, the cabin attendant will hand over the UM to Saudia’s contracted ground handling. This staff will take care of the child until he/she is picked up by the escort named on the Handling Advice. Saudi Arabian Airlines does not accept responsibility for Unaccompanied Minors after delivery to their nominated custodian on arrival at their destination.
