Does Saudi Arabian Airlines accept animals for transportation?
Saudia accepts pets for transportation if they are properly confined in a cage and accompanied by a health certificate proving that they are free of disease, as well as other documents required by countries of entry or transit. Household animals will be accepted for carriage in the cabin or cargo hold at the passenger’s risk. Saudia will not be responsible if authorities in other countries refuse entry or transiting of household animals via their countries.
What animals are accepted on Saudi Arabian flights?
Cats and small birds may be transported in the passenger cabin or in the cargo hold provided that it is equipped with ventilation system. However, Saudia will not allow the carriage of live birds until reviewing the necessary permits by the Ministry of Agriculture, which prove that they are free of any infectious diseases. Cats are allowed on condition that the required health certificate is obtained and attested by Saudi Embassies abroad.
Dogs will be accepted for carriage only in the aircraft hold provided that the aircraft hold is equipped with ventilation system.
Other animals (large size / wild) can be accepted to be transported only by air freight. Under regulations of the National Authority for the Protection of Wildlife and Development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the import, transfer or export of all living organisms and fungal products is permitted only after obtaining a written approval.
Traveling with Pets
Passengers must advise Saudia while making a booking that they intend to transport a household pet. If accepted for carriage in the passenger cabin or as checked baggage, the pet container is not included in the free baggage allowance. It shall constitute excess baggage, for which the applicable fee has to be paid:
- $130 – domestic and international flights, except to/from the US & Canada.
- Applicable excess baggage fees – to/from the US & Canada.
The fee will be multiplied by two in case it is a round trip journey. For pets larger in size, regular overweight and/or oversized baggage charges will apply in addition to the regular excess baggage fee.
Pets may be carried into the passenger cabin accompanied by the passenger in a proper container and providing that their weight (cage plus pet) does not exceed 5 kg. Only one pet per container is allowed, and the total dimension of the container must not exceed 52.5 x 32.5 x 40 cm (21 x 13 x 16 in). The container must have an adequate number of holes for ventilation and be completely leakproof. Saudi Arabian Airlines has the right to ensure the validity of the pet container.
Guide Dogs
Guide Dogs may accompany blind and deaf passengers. Guide Dogs accompanying passengers with disabilities will be carried free of charge in addition to the normal free baggage allowance. They may be transported only in the aircraft hold provided they are in their proper cage. Dogs are not allowed in the passenger cabin.
