How does Spirit Airlines ensure safe travel during the COVID-19 pandemic?
Committed to providing safe travel and peace of mind to its passengers, Spirit has implemented enhanced safety measures for the safety of its passengers and employees. Spirit Airlines COVID-19 Information Center offers the information needed so that people can continue flying Spirit Airlines with confidence:
- Travel Requirements.
- Face Covering Policy and Social Distancing.
- Enhanced Cleaning Protocols.
- Flexible Travel Options.
Travel Requirements
Spirit Airlines resumed service to many of its destinations in the U.S., Latin America, and the Caribbean, but some regions may have travel requirements. Spirit Airlines COVID-19 Information Center offers information about testing and quarantine requirements and necessary forms, as well as links to additional information and resources. Spirit Airlines recommends you visit local government websites for more information before traveling.
Face Covering Policy and Social Distancing
The wearing of face masks is optional on Spirit flights and in U.S. airports, except where local laws and regulations impose it. Also, local laws and regulations must be followed at all international airports, so you should check the rules before traveling and always have a mask with you when traveling internationally.
Spirit Airlines continues to support social distancing measures where possible and encourages you to use Online/Mobile Check-in to get your boarding pass before arriving at the airport, as well as self-tagging kiosks and Fast Bag Drop service, where available. Also, during the boarding process, you can scan your own boarding pass, and if you prefer, you’re welcome to board at the end of the boarding process. Spirit Airlines also placed plexiglass dividers at the ticket counters and gates and social-distancing indicators at all check-in counters.
Enhanced Cleaning Protocols
To keep passengers and employees healthy every step of the way, Spirit Airlines proactively follows the guidelines published by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Spirit Airlines has implemented enhanced cleaning protocols, updated airport and inflight procedures, and more:
- At the airport, EPA-registered disinfectants are used in all check-in and gate areas and electrostatic cleaning devices in the high-traffic airports.
- Onboard, expanded aircraft cleaning protocols that include hospital-grade disinfectants and antibacterial processes keep all surfaces in the cabin free of viruses and bacteria. Two EPA-registered fogging treatments are used to disinfect Spirit aircraft: the first applies a safe, high-grade disinfectant effective against coronaviruses, and the second uses an antimicrobial product to apply on all surfaces an invisible barrier that kills bacteria and viruses on contact for 30 days.
- Spirit Airlines has one of the youngest fleets, equipped with the most technologically advanced HEPA filters that capture 99.97% of particles and refresh cabin air on average every 2-3 minutes. The air that you breathe on board is a combination of 50% filtered and 50% fresh outside air.
Spirit Airlines is constantly evolving its procedures to maintain a clean and healthy environment for everyone. In February 2021, Spirit Airlines was awarded Platinum status by the APEX Health Safety initiative powered by SimpliFlying for the airline’s efforts in ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitization, becoming the highest-rated low-fare carrier in the world for cleanliness and safety.
