What is TAP Air Portugal policy on hand baggage?
Baggage complying with TAP Air Portugal’s restrictions and suitable for placing in the closed overhead rack or under the passenger seat may be carried in the passenger cabin.
What is TAP Air Portugal policy on checked baggage?
On all TAP Air Portugal and TAP Express routes, the free checked baggage allowance is based on the Piece Concept (a certain number of pieces of baggage, limited in weight and dimensions, that passengers are allowed to check free of charge). In accordance with international occupational health and safety standards, TAP Air Portugal does not transport any piece of baggage weighing more than 32 kg.
As an exception to IATA Resolution 302 (according to which a new assessment of baggage allowance and charges can be applied from a stopover at an intermediate point), TAP allows to keep the same free baggage allowance even with a stopover point. This exception is only valid for routes totally flown with TAP flights.
Hand Baggage
For the comfort and safety of the passengers, the size and weight of hand luggage allowed on board must be limited. Therefore, the hand baggage allowances are limited as such:

On some TAP Express aircraft, there may be some restrictions regarding transport of carry-on baggage.
If you exceed your hand baggage allowance, the following fees apply at the gate (credit card payment only):
- 70 EUR / 85 USD / 110 CAD – domestic and European flights (including and Morocco).
- 90 EUR / 105 USD / 130 CAD – intercontinental flights.
TAP Air Portugal will transport up to two pieces of mobility equipment per passenger with reduced mobility (who depend on wheelchairs, crutches, braces, prosthetic devices, etc.). Passengers own wheelchairs will be carried as checked baggage only.

For all classes, the maximum size per piece (the sum of the 3 dimensions of each piece) is 158 cm (62 in).
Victoria Gold and Silver members have extra luggage allowances when flying with TAP Air Portugal:
- Victoria Gold (or Star Alliance Gold Member) – 1 extra piece of baggage with a maximum weight according to class of travel.
- TAP Platinum American Express – 1 extra piece of baggage with a maximum weight of 23 kg.
Excess Baggage Fees
Pre-purchase of additional, overweight and/or oversize baggage is available through the Contact Center, as well as at city/airport ticket offices (only up to 24 hours before flight departure at the airport). Only additional baggage can be pre-purchased online. The following charges apply per piece and per direction:

Purchase of extra baggage may be restricted for certain destinations and periods, and you should check TAP Air Portugal website.
Sporting Equipment
Sporting equipment will be accepted as part of the passenger permitted free baggage allowance if it meets the restrictions. If the sporting equipment exceeds the size, weight or number of pieces permitted in the free baggage allowance the following rates will apply:

Baggage irregularities should be immediately reported to the TAP Air Portugal staff at the time the baggage is collected or when it is discovered to be missing, before leaving the baggage claim area.
