What is Vietnam Airlines policy regarding the hand baggage allowance?
Each passenger may carry on board a free hand baggage allowance and, in addition and without additional charges, certain personal objects.
What is Vietnam Airlines policy regarding the checked baggage allowance?
The Piece System applies on all Vietnam Airlines flights. Vietnam Airlines has restrictions on the weight and size of a single piece of checked baggage. Unless otherwise specified, only checked baggage with a maximum weight of 32 kg and total linear dimension not exceeding 203 cm is accepted for carriage. If the baggage exceeds these limits, special arrangements must be made in advance through the booking agent, and prior approval from Vietnam Airlines is required.
Hand Baggage
On Vietnam Airlines flights, the following conditions and limitations are applied with regard to the hand baggage allowance:
- Economy Class – 1 piece + 1 accessory, weighing up to a maximum of 12 kg (26 lbs).
- Premium Economy & Business Class – 2 pieces + 1 accessory, weighing up to a maximum of 18 kg (40 lbs).
- Maximum weight per piece – 10 kg.
- Maximum size per piece – 115 cm (56 x 36 x 23 cm or 22 x 14 x 9 inches).
- Maximum size per accessory – 40 x 30 x 15 cm (16 x 12 x 6 in).
In addition to the hand baggage allowance, each passenger may carry the following personal objects:
- An overcoat, wrap or blanket.
- An umbrella or walking stick (except one with metal-filled sharp pointed end).
- Reading materials, a reasonable amount for in-flight reading.
- Infant‘s carrying basket or bassinet and infant’s food for consumption during the flight.
- A pair of crutches, braces and/or other prosthetic devices for the passenger’s use.

Excess Baggage
For the carriage of baggage in excess of the free baggage allowance, you will be required to pay a charge. Prepaid baggage is available for passengers holding Vietnam Airlines tickets and for flights wholly on Vietnam Airlines and operated by Vietnam Airlines only. Prepaid baggage can be purchased online or at Vietnam Airlines Ticketing offices up to 6 hours before departure. Prepaid baggage is available for up to a maximum of 10 pieces per passenger. Prepaid baggage is subject to standard conditions of maximum weight and size for checked baggage. Prepaid baggage is not available for flights to/from the Americas.
If at the check-in counter, the checked baggage is in excess of the baggage allowance and prepaid baggage, the excess baggage fees apply for the extra pieces.

Fees are cumulative. If an extra piece of baggage exceeds both the standard weight and maximum size, the total charge will be calculated so: standard piece fee (prepaid or at the airport) + overweight fee + oversized fee.
For checked baggage over 32 kg and/or 203 cm, Vietnam Airlines charges the following bulky baggage fees:

Sports Equipment
Bikes, snow/water ski sets, surfboards, scuba diving equipment and other sports equipment are accepted for carriage as part of the free baggage allowance. To request the sports baggage transportation, you must contact Vietnam Airlines ticketing offices or agents at least 24 hours before the estimated time of departure. Passengers will be charged baggage charges (regular baggage fees and if applicable bulky baggage fees) if the free baggage allowance is exceeded.
The first golf set with a total weight of no more than 23 kg will be transported free of charge on all Vietnam Airlines flights. From the second set, the excess baggage fee applies.
Baggage Services
Upon arrival, you must inform immediately any irregularities (pilferage, damage, delay) at the Lost and Found counter so that Vietnam Airlines‘ staff can open a property irregular report (PIR). In the case of delay or lost baggage, you must submit a written complaint to Vietnam Airlines, at the latest within 21 days from the date that the baggage has been placed at your disposal or should have been received.
