Does Vietnam Airlines accept passengers traveling with pets?

On Vietnam Airlines flights, pets may be transported as checked baggage or in the passenger cabin.

What general conditions apply to the carriage of pets on Vietnam Airlines flights?

Pets must be carried in a suitable container which meets the legal requirements and accompanied by valid health and vaccination certificates, entry permits, and other documents required by countries of entry or transit.

Acceptance for carriage is subject to the condition that the passenger bears full responsibility for the pet. If accepted, the animal shall be carried as special baggage (not included in the free baggage allowance), for which you will have to pay the applicable charge.

Passengers traveling with pets are required to arrive at the airport early enough to complete all procedures before the flight. At check-in, the “Waiver of responsibility” signed form must be submitted.

Traveling with Pets

The carriage of pets in the passenger cabin (PETC service) is allowed under the following strict conditions:

• Dogs and cats only, at least 10 weeks old.
• Snub/pug-nosed dogs and snub-nosed cats are not accepted.
• Restricted for Business Class on Boeing B787 and Airbus A350 aircraft.
• Upon request to Vietnam Airlines ticketing offices or agents at least 36 hours prior to the estimated time of departure.
• The combined weight of animal and kennel must be 6 kg or less.
• The kennel must not exceed 35 x 30 x 20 cm and must be constructed of rigid plastics, fiberglass, metal, solid wood, plywood, or weld metal mesh.

The carriage of pets as checked baggage (AVIH service) is subject to the following conditions:

• Only dogs, cats, and birds are accepted. Other animals can only be carried as cargo.
• Snub/pug-nosed dogs and snub-nosed cats are not accepted.
• Only pets in healthy condition, without offensive smell, are accepted. Sick or pregnant pets shall be rejected.
• Upon request to Vietnam Airlines ticketing offices or agents at least 24 hours prior to the estimated time of departure.
• The combined weight of animal and kennel must be 32 kg or less.
• Only one animal per kennel (exception: two birds with similar size and weight may be transported in one container).

Fees

For the carriage of pets in the cabin or as checked baggage, Vietnam Airlines will apply a special baggage charge. The charge shall be applied per container depending on route:

Service Animals

Vietnam Airlines will carry Service Animals accompanying passengers with disabilities as checked baggage or in the cabin free of charge, in addition to the normal free baggage allowance.
