How does Virgin Australia ensure a safe journey in COVID-19 times?
Virgin Australia wants to ensure your journey is seamless, from planning to your onboard experience, and offers all the information you need on its COVID-19 information hub:
- Travel and entry requirements.
- Health and safety procedures.
- Booking flexibility.
Travel and Entry Requirements
When traveling domestically, you should check the Government website of the State or Territory to which you’re traveling. You can check restrictions using the COVID-19 Restriction Checker. When checking in online, you need to provide your contact tracing details via the contact tracing form. When checking in at the airport, you need to provide your email address, phone number, and postcode.
On international flights, Virgin Australia only carries passengers who are fully vaccinated with a vaccine approved or recognized by Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration. The only unvaccinated passengers accepted are children under the age of 12 at the time of departure, children aged between 12 and 17 at the time of departure either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and traveling with their fully vaccinated parents or guardian, and passengers who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons (with approved evidence and subject to state and territory requirements). To find out about the COVID-19 restrictions, you can check the step-by-step guide for international travel to/from Australia and to Fiji or Indonesia.
Health and Safety Procedures
To prioritize your health and well-being, Virgin Australia implemented several health and safety procedures:
- To help reduce unnecessary contact, Virgin Australia asks that you:
- Use Web/Mobile Check-in for domestic travel.
- Maintain social distance at the airport.
- Scan your boarding pass and follow a staggered boarding or disembarkation procedure.
- You must wear a face mask at all times in the airport and on board.
- Every passenger does a pre-departure COVID-19 health questionnaire.
- Virgin Australia’s planes are fitted with HEPA filters. Protective features, such as directional airflow, an ongoing intake of fresh air from outside, and high seat backs between passengers, ensure that there is an extremely low risk of COVID-19 transmission on board.
- Virgin Australia implemented rigorous nightly cleaning of the aircraft, disinfecting seats, armrests, tray tables, seatback entertainment screens, etc. To maintain high cleaning standards, the frequency of cleaning was increased. Using long-lasting antibacterial and antimicrobial cleaning agents, high-touch and high-traffic areas, such as door handles, seat areas, and kiosks, are frequently sanitized.
Booking Flexibility
If you want to change or cancel your domestic flight, you should check the fare rules of your booking to see whether a fee applies. There is a COVID-19 travel exemption that allows passengers who are impacted by COVID-19 to change the date of their booking without a change fee or cancel their booking for Future Flight credit without a cancellation fee. This policy applies if you are required to isolate.
For all international bookings, Virgin Australia continues to offer fee-free booking flexibility (unlimited date and/or destination changes and cancellation for Future Flight credit) until June 30, 2022, for travel until December 31, 2022.
