Seat41A
FromHeathrow
ToAbu Dhabi - Abu Dhabi International (AUH)
I was allocated this seat as a window seat by British Airways for my 7 hour flight to Abu Dhabi from London. My wife had 41B centre. I had the opportunity to change these seats when I checked in online 24 hours before departure but thought they seemed fine. However when we boarded I was horrified to find that there was no window next to 41A, just a solid section of plastic about 4 foot long. It was also the same on the other corresponding side. I complained to the cabin crew but to no avail as the flight was full so could not change seats. I have to say that this was the worst ever seat I have ever had for a flight. To say that it was chlosterphobic would be an understatement, it was awful. So everyone beware and make sure that this seat (however it may be numbered by your airline) is avoided.

The flight was my first experience of the Boeing 787. I flew in the economy plus cabin and find the new economy plus to be significantly inferior to the old premium economy which used better seats.

Turning to the Boeing 787 I was very surprised at the very low build quality (at least as this relates to the internal fitting out). There were significant creaks, groans, an rattles emanating from the plane and the fit and finish of panels was very poor. This casts doubt on the quality control.

I was impressed by the size of the overhead lockers which were thought to be smaller.

In summary, I much prefer the Boeing 777, a much better experience.

Only good if the people in front don't fully recline their seats. I was unable to get out of my seat due to the rude people in front (one a child) fully reclining their seats and not moving them up when asked so I could go to the toilet. The young girl next to me had to leave her seat and I slid across both seats. I would not take a window seat again unless I knew the person next to me. I would also be more vocal with the lazy Dad who couldn't even work how to move the seat back into the upright position!

BA unlike UA and JAL has their business class seats facing each other. This means you look right at the person in the Aisle/Window seat. Although there is a screen that you can put up to cut off the view, it is embarassing to do so and then the aisle seat cannot see the window. In addition, when the attendent serves the window passenger, the screen must be down and they have to reach across the aisle passenger. Also, the window passenger has to step across the feet of the aisle passenger. Not very passenger or attendent friendly.

FromDurban - Durban International (DUR)
ToLondon - London Heathrow (LHR)
I always prefer a window seat as I love geography so day and night I can observe all the different countries below. Seat 31K was chosen for the window seat and being close to the toilets and getting served fairly quickly with food and drinks. The window is slightly misaligned so in future I will book seat 32A as the window looks perfectly aligned. Pity though as the person in front reclined his seat my tray is in contact with my stomach, I am not your average size person so I cant complain.

This seat is better on leg room because there's a gap between the window and the seat that allows you to move your legs around a bit more if you're a taller person. I would definitely use this seat again. And I didn't even notice that its close proximity to the lavatory since there is a bulkhead between the lav and the seats. Great seat for a tall person on a 10 hour flight!

Extra large windows are nice, but with a full flight seat was very cramped - very narrow and claustrophobic especially when person in front reclanes their seat. Also seat seems harder and more uncomfortable compared to BA economy seats on other aircraft. Breakfast offering of single hard croissant in plastic bag was pathetic.

Superb new Dreamliner and SOO much better than the old British Midland plane on this route. Amazingly quiet cabin. Food perfect if a little small. Service was as expected, staff on this run not knowing anything about the night before 6 1/2 hr delay. Overall i would book BA CAi-London-London-Cai rather than Egyptair as its superior standard and, cheaper.

Great seat, a bit of extra legroom but still reclined as much as the others in World Traveller. Very occasional queues for the toilets by your elbow but the toilets were on the opposite side of a gangway so no unpleasant odours! Downside: always the last on the aircraft to be served food.
