General presentation
There are 7 A340s in the SAS fleet. This plane has a total seating capacity of 245 passengers in a new three class layout. This plane cruises at a speed of 875kph and has a range of 12800km. It is used mainly on long-haul flights to Asia. This layout shows the new Business Class configuration in operation from 2006.
On SAS flights within Scandinavia there is only one seating class.
On intercontinental flights aboard the SAS Airbus, you can choose between Live TV, 12 video channels, 10 different games and 18 audio and radio channels.
SAS Net Access users have another entertainment option: to view four live television channels directly from their laptop. The television programming, which is distributed by Connexion by Boeing consists of BBC World, EuroNews, Eurosportnews, CNBC and MSNBC. EuroSport News offers up-to-the minute highlights and scores from many of the top sporting events across the globe. The service is available on all Scandinavian Airlines long-haul flights.
For Business passengers on long haul flights, the implementation of the new flat bed seats is now successfully completed on all SAS flights to and from Bangkok, Shanghai and Tokyo and should be available on flights to and from Beijing by the end of 2006. USA routes will be equipped with the new seats during the winter 2006 – 2007.

A comfortable business class seat but the ‘A’ row seats are staggered so that one seat has the console next to the window with the seat by the aisle and the following seat has the seat directly next to the window and the console by the aisle. Those seats that are situated directly by the window have slightly more privacy and better viewing out of the windows as well. The seats that are directly next to the windows are numbered ‘2-4-6....’. Unfortunately, with my having seat #3A, I had my console next to the window and my seat adjacent to the aisle.

Comfortable enough for a 6.0ft tall individual like myself. However, being as this is a seat closest to the tail and rear gulleys, the noise from the busy crew and the environment is very intrusive. The seat is next to an added partition which is used for storage and access to it ny the crew is frequent. In addition , the sensitivity to turbulence appears to be much higher in that location.

About what one would expect for an economy seat-a generally uncomfortable and confining space. Service a bit worse than expected. Entertainment system above average.
